I just rewatched this movie with your reaction. This is such a great film and it's one of my all-time favorites. Stef, you NEED to watch the 2017 movie "Gifted". I know you'll love that movie.

I am so glad that you loved this film. It's one of my favourites, too. And you are right, every scene has meaning and nothing is superfluous. The acting is incredible, too. I did love the scene of Robin thinking about what Will had said to him about his painting. It didn't need dialogue, just as your reaction didn't need words... your expressions and emotions told the whole story. I also loved the scene of them on the park bench. There are too many great scenes to mention. And you're right... they don't make films like this anymore, sadly. But there are plenty more like this for you to watch, so keep it up!

Just FYI. The end of the movie, when Robbin Williams said "Son of a bitch, stole my line." That was unscripted. Robbin came up with that on his own.

Thanks, Stef, for another heartfelt reaction. Thanks for the person who suggested "Good Will Hunting".
That Damon and Affleck wrote such an amazing screenplay from Matt's original story is mind boggling at the ages they were at the time.
Films that show the audience more about deeper relationships are still being made but I think are harder to get greenlit by the studios. Indie films are the best bet if they can fund the production. It's easier for yet another reboot of the "Spider-Man" franchise to get made.
I watched Alexander Payne's "The Holdovers" a few days ago and didn't know what to expect. It's not a tear jerker by any means but is a well-written piece about three very different people who end up spending the holidays together at a prep school during winter break.

Stef, I’m so happy you connected to the film. It’s my favorite and has been since I saw it in theaters. I feel like the indie film scene at the time meant more movies had this kind of grounded approach to relationships (romantic and otherwise).
For some fun facts: the chemistry between Damon and Driver was so good because they did actually date for a time; there was a real connection. And the reason the car is drifting a bit side to side at the end as it heads to California is because Damon was actually driving and wasn’t so great behind the wheel at the time.
The film won multiple Oscars, including Best Screenplay by Damon and Affleck, and Best Supporting Actor for Williams.

Good Will Hunting is a touching movie. Haven’t seen it in many years now, but I thought that it was really good. Glad that you liked it!
I bet that you will like The Pursuit of Happyness!
