Kip Thorne’s book is excellent. Hawking’s is supposed to be brilliant but I haven’t read it. Here is todays imponderable though: PI the number 3.1415926… never ends and never repeats. It is infinitely long. You will find your date and time of birth, death, wedding right next to the social security number of the person you will marry in there. The DNA of every creature that ever lived and ever will live is in there. Digital constructs of every video you will ever record are in there. I found my DOB and SSN next to each other. PI .. has no relationship to time. It just is. It all exists right now. If we knew where to go we could access and decode a video you might make two years from now.. this instant. What is Pi? Where is it? Everything you are looking at or experiencing can be represented by some part of it. Maybe all of it is everywhere at the same time… brain explodes.

Not sure if anyone has suggested this yet but I heard you wanted to see if there was a book about the science in this movie. There is a book called "The Science of Interstellar by Kip Thorne" who is a Professor of Theoretical Physics at Caltech and a Nobel Prize winner. He was the Executive Producer of this movie and helped create the design of the black hole "Gargantua" and other scientific based imagery that are derived from real scientific theories.

Dr Mann basically sent his signal out knowing where he was was hopeless. And when awakening survival and 'plan B' had to be the option and didnt want the others to scupper it....thats how I saw it anyway

I have not seen passengers!! But I do understand what you mean about Mr.Mann. I had a couple questions down the road but one of the reasons why I loved this film was due to the fact that all of them were answered. Every scene onwards from the unraveling was incredible. So special: I have yet to see a newly done movie make this good of an impression on me when it comes to these things. Such a great recommendation!!!

Whats great with movies is when we get to determine/chose our own interpetation of what we see. So for me, I agree with you about Dr.Mann. As he said, he found out that his planet was not the one, on day one. And he had never considered his planet(choice) was a dead end. End eventually he cudn't resist the temptation to send a positive signal, and hope they wud go to his planet. It's also the effect we humans struggle with, when we are isolated. We are social beings, and most of us will go "a bit" crazy if we have no social contact. So his urge(selfishness) to be saved, along with become a bit insane after so many years. Is why he did what he did, even if his plan had no grip in reality(like opening the hatch with no safe seal). If you are interested in isolation topic, you shud read about Beatriz Flamini, that recently spent 500 days in a cave. Doing it volunterily for science.... Imagine go into a cave during a pandemic, and have no news and almost no human contact. And when you get out, the pandemic is over and a major war is going on in Europe.. It will be interesting to see what the sccience team have to say, when the experiment is concluded. Have you seen the movie: Passengers with Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, a hollywood story with a focus on this theme. Anyway it was nice to watch Interstellar with you! :)
