You should definitely check out some of Tarantino's other films. No matter what someone may think of any of them or him, he is a fine craftsman. Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill would be my recommendation. Also considering what you pointed out in this movie I think you would enjoy Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels by Guy Ritchie.

Butch's great grandfather had worn it and came home during that first war, so there for considered it good luck, giving it to Butch's grandfather who when he went to war and died, but the watch still made it to his dad, who also had bad luck with it, before Christopher Walken eventually got it to Butch. but the fact that she forgot his watch and made him go back, left him better off, then they would've ever been if they just left town. So many the good luck of this watch skips two generations.. if there IS such a thing as luck...

2021-05-24 08:39:57 +0000 UTCIt's also interesting that Tarantino spent his teens and 20s studying to be an actor and eventually transitioned to writing/directing. So much of his acting background informs his writing. He allows his characters to speak at length and take their time in scenes. And he can really build suspense through his characters, not just through plot contrivance.

What am I in for?β Famous last words. :) Pulp fiction or pulp stories normally dealt with narratives involving cheap crooks or lurid detective stories, which this movie plays off of. I love Jules's final speech: like the last line of a good poem, it almost gives everything that went before it a new meaning. In a world full of evil and bad people, there is hope for redemption.

Inglorious Basterds and the two part Kill Bill are my personal favorites from him. Uma Thurman, who played Mia in this, is the star of Kill Bill and is absolutely amazing in it.

I had thought that the main protagonist was Vincent - but when Butch shot Vincent, I suddenly found myself adrift. What was this all about? As to the purpose: I guess Jules and Butch had it right: It was a really weird day for a bunch of unusual people in extraordinary circumstances. I'm also curious to hear what everyone else thinks this movie was supposed to be about?

2021-05-21 23:42:22 +0000 UTCI'll try to keep this short, but I have so much to say about this movie, definitely in my top 5. First, Tarantino's dialogue is just so amazing. He can write dialogue that is just so natural, its amazing. Second is get used to feet if you continue watching Tarantino lol, he focuses on them a lot and there are women in real life (Rosario Dawson for example) who can attest to the fact that its a real fetish of his, and he gets creepy about it sometimes. Third is that overdose scene; one of my favorite scenes ever. It's intense, it's exciting, it's funny at points, and just so well written. Fourth is I did Christopher Walken's watch monologue in my theatre class in high school, one of my favorite monologues, and who doesn't love doing a Walken impression. Lastly is Quentin Tarantino was Jimmie, the dude with the good coffee. He doesn't always appear in his films, but he does in some. Not the best actor, but an incredible writer and director. This movie gets a 100% on the tomatometer from me. Inglourious Basterds is my second favorite of his behind this one (although Once Upon A Time in Hollywood is a neck and neck 3rd)

2021-05-21 19:47:37 +0000 UTCI'm not a big fan of all of Q.T.'s movies, but this one has been a personal favourite. I enjoy the dialogue, and the full circle plot makes for a very compelling delivery. If the story was shown sequentially, I don't think I'd have been nearly as entertained.

It's a great ensemble piece and a great movie. Interesting side note, Tarantino also wrote Natural Born Killers. Love that you're watching QT films and I love the hair. Looks great!
