This story actively reflects a hard topic that should be spoken about because many people are survivors and suffer with this guilt, confusion, and shame. Honestly I am happy you’re still doing this story on here as it actively brings up a topic and conversation that should be addressed more. Not to mention stories like this could help victims finally seek the proper help.

It might be heavy for some people to see that combination, yes. But the way you worded it as "Nick would have had to be silenced for 2 more years" makes a lump in my belly.

2025-08-29 19:21:20 +0000 UTCI can only speculate about the reasons the publisher wanted to make Nick older but I wonder if it's because of the shock factor of hearing such a young character talk about sexual abuse. Which is of course rather backwards; CSA survivors carry their experiences with them whether or not the adults around them deem it age-appropriate to talk about. Effectively you would've had to silence Nick for two extra years in order to get his story heard. As for these two pages, IMO the convo could've gone a lot worse. Nick puts a pause on the conversation, Derrick respects that boundary, both agree to continue working it out later. Seems like this could have been the first step toward providing Nick with closure and the answers he seeks and repairing this relationship which ostensibly has a lot of good things going for it, without excusing what Derrick did. We share Nick's bewilderment as to why a man in a heterosexual relationship had the impulse to touch his girlfriend's preteen little brother in this way, although these kinds of things can and do happen.
