The Roadmap for Cat/Suit
Added 2019-12-02 03:21:59 +0000 UTCPeople have been wondering what I've been working on, where the game goes, and have been sending me messages like 'I have ideas!' So I feel like after three month's of consistent updates, it's finally time to work the chaos that is my creative process into something of a readable 'Road Map' for everyone. I'll start with what's already done, and let everyone know what still has to be done.
1. The Story Is Already Written
-I have been telling fantasy and sci-fi stories for years. I write them for myself, I write them for roleplays, I write them for commission series. From the opening of the game to the ending credits and the 5 possible endings, I have planned out a meticulous, lovingly crafted story with heart and personal connection and meaning to me. Deep characters you can fall in love with who have real issues, and a crazy, kinky, and light-hearted world that given time, I want to spiral out into its own tabletop Rpg.
2. The Assets are 25% done.
-The largest barrier of entry to making any game I have come to realize is not the engine nor the knowledge of how to program the game, but the assets necessary to make the game. Character art, sprites, tilesets, sound effects, music score, etc. These take up predominantly the largest amount of my time every month in developing Cat/Suit. There will be three main protagonists of the game by the 7 month mark, and then still countless enemy sprites and character sets to be made. Every single interactable Npc, enemy and object in the game I am making by hand. Still though, even with everything I've already made for the game, I still have a very long way to go to finishing the game. I haven't even put in the custom music or sound effects yet.
3. Combat and balance is not done yet.
-Cat/suit is currently very easy, and it will remain that way until the whole combat system is in place. This should be done by the 7 month mark. As I started Cat/Suit in Rpg maker to expedite progress and have a showable product for people to begin getting invested in, there are limitations to the system. Enemy levels scale TERRIBLY right now, mostly because the dodgy math of the back end is not a fan of low numbers. I do not want to publish a terrible Rpg maker game with gimmicky mechanics and giant 1,000,000 health and damage pools. I want to make an Rpg where you actively have to pay attention to every encounter and dodge and react to things, not just grind until you're so strong you can flick the final boss into oblivion. As Rpg Maker is not made for this, getting it to work like that is a process. I ask your patience as this gets worked out, and in the meantime? Story and art to enjoy! Huzzah!
4. I'm not looking for story input.
-As stated above on point number 1, the story of Cat/suit is actually already done. 100%. There is no need for your input on 'What should happen' in the game. Though it is a fetish and kink oriented game, the story has a lot of personal meaning to me as it's creator. It is perhaps the most important element of the game to me. These are characters who may be like some of you, because they are a lot like me. People have made them feel bad for being inherently who they are, or have taken advantage of them or have ruined their lives either willfully or through ignorance. These characters in Cat/suit have and will go through hardships, and its very important to me that message isn't messed with. I have one ghost writer whom I work with on Cat/Suit, and she wishes to remain anonymous. She will be the only person who helps me with the story. I want to encourage people creating their own characters and heck, even role playing an Edgling or an Inkling... but don't send me suggestions for the main story. Please. I ask this in a very heartfelt manner. Please. If I go out of my way some day looking for advice? Then by all means, I am actively then looking for random input.
5. Currently, it should take about a year and a half to finish Cat/Suit, and may be moved over to Unity's Engine after about 8 months.
-Ok, this is a big multipart Roadmap thing for obvious reasons. One of which is how long it's going to take. Stray has a long (but thankfully lacking in pointless sidequests and fluff) story ahead of her. The asset creation, once it's gotten to about 8 months in, may well see the game moved over to Unity's creation engine as it's actually less stressful and more streamlined to build in. The reasons it hasn't yet are a few. For one, the tilesets for buildings and miscellaneous things aren't done yet. For another, the music isn't done. Once I have at least the building blocks of both of those however, I may be moving the game over.
6. Merchandising is coming!
-Last thing. Swearsy Realsies. So people have expressed interest in charms, shirts and prints and whatnot. That was absolutely, 10,000% intended from the get go. If a kinky adventure is to be accepted as mainstream it has to be marketed as mainstream. Ergo the maxim of Cat/Suit and every game I want to build. Kinky and Cute. After the 6 month mark and if the game has garnered enough attention to hit about 1500 a month, I will begin working on merchandising plans with earnest. NOT by taking time away from Cat/Suit development, but by working with other artists and creators to make designs and materials for the game. Then after 8 months the first merchandise will be made available, and the 8 month WIP build of the game will be made into the 'Chapter 1' version for purchase.
7. After that...
-Ok, THIS is the last thing. Super duper swearsy realsies promise. I've actually already started development on a second game that is being worked on alongside Cat/Suit. Built in Unity, it's going to be a polished action platformer much in the vein of a classic Metroidvania, but ya know... kinky and cute! Once I can go full time indie game dev, or even part time (as the Patreon dipped below 1000), you'll be hearing much more about that other project. I intend to make 7 games total right now, that is how far my plans into the future span.
I don't want to just make a fetish game and be done with it, I want to create a whole set of games that are high quality, polished and lovingly crafted indie gems that can maybe start to put kink in the proper public light in some small way. I want to make games that can get someone unfamiliar with fetishes living a normal life to try them out, and maybe realize that its perfectly healthy being a kinky person and there is nothing wrong with that.
And well... I'm thankful to all my patreon followers for being along on the road to that.

I like your ambition. I wish I had some sort of art or programming talent myself so I could make my own kink games.
