Personal objects are used to get control of a person. Hair is used to make someone a target. She needed the boy to be normal so he could go to the market, feed the parents/kids, etc. Paul was a cheater and a corrupt cop, so not a huge loss to society. And he wasn't friends with the captain. The captain was his father-in-law. (you were talking over the phone conversation where that bit came up).

We know why she trusted Alex to act how she wanted; because she was threatening him with the lives of the parents. By sending him to school, Alex is acting normal, telling the teachers/cops nothing is wrong & is vouching for the Aunt. The only reason Alex was sus'd out is because of Justine not letting it go.
