I did intend to use this Patreon for fursuit progress pics and such as well, but I took a long break during covid since nobody was getting any use out of them anyway. Now I’m back trying to turn my latest Ante model into a costume, and here is how I did it. :D I threw in some nice maw shots for you guys!
I printed a mold and used 2 part expanding foam to make the head base. The nose was originally a part of the main mold, but I cut it off and made a new mold to remove the seam down the middle. I used plastidip spray to coat the foam nose in rubber (it feels like a dodge ball now). I’m not sure how I’d do coating with different colored noses. I’d probably have to use silicone in a smooth mold, coat the sides of the mold, then fill the rest with foam.
The eye meshes are PLA 3D prints. I just printed a flat cube with tight infill and no top or bottom layers, then used a hair dryer to melt it into shape over a PETG print of the eye. The eyes have resin inserts with depth so they refract and catch light. I printed them in clear resin on a resin printer, then painted the back with black and metallic paint to give the irises a shine. I might add an artificial shine with vinyl later. We’ll see.
The teeth are also resin printed with a clear coat to give them a more wet appearance. They look good, but I wish I sanded or coated them more because they make a zippy sound when rubbing against each other from the layer lines. D: I’m hoping I can get the jaw working well.
The fur is just fleece from Joanns. I like it for it’s smooth, toony look. The hair is also fleece, but I brushed it out and ironed it to hopefully give it a more hair-like look. It definitely catches light differently, but it’s not too noticeable. The hair needs work still.
