Breaking Bad 5x2 | FIRST TIME REACTION! | "Madrigal"

Ok, ok, ok, I know I get beef from everyone on hating Walt and I KNEW that our love for mike would be juxtaposed with our Walt-disgust. So once and for all, let me lay it out there. Is Mike winning Ten-Commandment-Follower of the year awards? Not a chance. He’s a thug, and he kills people for a living basically. He could get a job at Jiffy Lube and call it a day but he doesn’t so for sure he’s not the most upstanding citizen. HOWEVER, he doesn’t try to convince anyone that he’s God’s gift to creation. He’s confident but not arrogant to a point of ignorance, and he has many moments of genuine care for others. Walt ALMOST WITHOUT FAIL cares for himself, consistently puts others in danger or trades integrity and safety for a few extra bucks, and gives off the attitude that God Himself was blessed to have created such a wonder. I just can’t with that. I wouldn’t marry either of them. But think of which one you’d leave your kid with for a few hours. I don’t even think you’d blink before choosing Mike. Case closed. -Whit (the mouthy one.)

Walt falls to the level of an animal here. It's tough to watch. But the fact that the characters are human, flawed, even capable of despicable things makes them interesting. For example, John Snow on GOT always did the right thing even when it wasn't smart. It made him predictable and less interesting.

This is coming from someone who loves walt, although my love for walt comes from the acting and how hes written as a character. Walt the way he is written, is written to be more unlikable than mike i feel, however the very fact that hes such a scumbag at this point is exactly why I found him interesting to watch. Mike is written to be less annoying than walt purposefully and mike has a few more standards than the common criminal. That being said i can agree that fans often downplay that mike isn't exactly a good person,. Like sure mike is trying to make money for his granddaughter but its not even a case to be made where walt at first started out doing it for his family because he was about to die, mike could simply get a legitimate job instead of being a hired hitman killing people.

Lydia is one of my favorite characters on this show! I could not wait for you three to meet her & you finally have!!! Not surprised on how you each initially think of her and yes will continue too 😜 I will admit, yes she’s annoying, continually wound up and definitely doesn’t seem she should be able to be involved in this type of world, however, Laura Fraser (Lydia) does an amazing acting job in portraying this type of character. You three have generally; justifiably; always had a disdain towards Walt… this season is going to heighten that feeling towards him. I appreciate your investment you continue to have in this show 😄👍🏼

But there is a difference - Walt has a source of income, and Mike doesn't. That means Walt's interest in maintaining the meth business is not out of desperation, and is therefore less justified (his cancer can always come back, but he's not facing down any bills or prospective surgeries that we've seen). The ladies also acknowledged that Mike earning money is better for all of them, because he can pay off guys like Chow (not Chow himself, now, but the others like him) to keep silent, which really helps Walt and Jesse. Walt, on the other hand, isn't thinking about Jesse or Mike. Mike has also consistently shown himself to be more principled than Walt. Mike actually cares for his granddaughter and spends time with her. Walt has seldom spent time with his own son when it wasn't buying him off to feel good about himself. And there's the hyper-toxic relationship he sabotaged with his own wife. Mike presumably had a wife to make a granddaughter, but he's not forcing her to live with him past the point that the relationship didn't work anymore. She's not his prisoner. Walt says he's doing it for "family", but Mike actually shows it. Plus he's funnier. I get what you're saying and yes, they are very *animated* when they express displeasure for one or enthusiasm for the other... but you can see why someone would favor one over the other.

you ladies fawning over Mike yet despising Walt doesn't come as a surprise but it further reveals that y'all have insane biases that cloud your seeing what is actually happening. Walt wanted to continue cooking but you ladies laughed it off because since "he already runs a business" he's being extra. Yet Mike deciding to continue after losing his money didn't elicit the same response. Walt killed people on his journey to becoming Heisenberg and that disgusted you. Mike probably has a past that led him to be who he is now yet you ladies fangirl for him.

Your collective reactions during the last Mike and Lydia scene were priceless! So much tension, and then your shock at him reconsidering joining the business... So great haha. Yeah, I'm guessing he was thinking about his granddaughter, since that was the only thing to get a reaction out of him when he met with Hank and Gomie. I feel like at this point, Vince Gilligan was like, "You know what? We really gotta buck these fucking Walter Stans once and for all..." haha. Gross level over 9,000. But hang in there, the show gets super good from here out! See you on the next one!
