Oh, you guys mentioned that you watched Dune. I looked for the reaction but couldn't find it. Is it on here somewhere? I'm excited for that one. :D

Yay! I love this movie. Leaving comments as I watch to answer the questions you guys brought up and clear up the parts where you seemed to get confused. Yes, Data is Short Round, from Indiana Jones. Good catch. As far as genre, I think people call this either a children's adventure film, or a coming of age adventure. Maybe kids fantasy as well. All three of these cover such a huge range of tropes and story types that pretty much anything goes as long as it is considered appropriate for children. Some of the humor probably seems like it isn't kid appropriate by today's standards, but back in the 80s, we had a very different understanding of what was considered acceptable for kids. This was absolutely on par with children's films of the time. Andy (the pretty redhead who likes Bran) didn't "move on quickly." Before the gang left the house to go and look for One-Eyed Willie's rich stuff, Bran said he had a date with Andy (I think he said that night or the next night). She's Andy. It might have been their first date or they may have already had a few. She was in the car with Troy, but that wasn't a date, since Steph (the one you guys see as Barb) was in the car with them. They were just hanging out. It never actually said in the movie if they were dating, but we see later that she was wearing Troy's jacket. This says to me that she is either dating both guys (which is fine because both boys appear to know about it) or it's a case where Troy thinks there is more, or wants it to be more. He could have given her his coat cause she was cold and it was a wet day. If she was dating a jerkoff like Troy, it was probably because it's what's expected of her by her family or friends because she's a cheerleader and he's the cool kid. She was probably with him out of a sense of obligation. That's how things worked in the 80s. But she really wants to be with Bran. So when Troy turned out to be a pig, she was just getting romantic with (and probably seeking a certain level of comfort from) the guy she already had a thing for and was set up to date. You asked why Mama Fertelli was keeping the kids in the restaurant instead of kicking them out, and then later, why she was chasing them out. Let's break that one down. Did you see what was happening in the window behind the kids when they were at the table? It only showed it for a split second, but one of the Fertelli guys was carrying something large and rather body shaped in a bag over his shoulder. The shot was set up so that we, the viewers, saw it, but the kids did not. Mama Fertelli kept them inside the restaurant so that her son could carry the body out without the kids seeing it, which they might have had they been outside. She needed to keep them inside until he had the body stowed away. Once he'd carried it out and had it put out of sight, she could let them go, which means when Mickey came back up stairs, he already had done it. Which is why she wanted them to leave. She probably also knew Mickey was likely snooping around and was worried he found Sloth. She was probably hurrying them out before they could discover that she had her son locked up in the basement and start asking questions. Chunk (the chubby kid) wasn't able to get out of the room with the stiff the whole time. Before he got out, we saw the body (a different one than the other son was carting outside) kept falling on him and blocking the door. He kept trying to get it to stay upright so he could get the others to see him or open the door, but it kept falling on him. Remember, he pushed it up and kept saying "Stay." When he finally got out, the implication is that he finally got the body to stand upright long enough to open the door. I know it probably seems like bad writing when Andy is yammering about how she should have let Troy look at her, but take it within the right context. She's not saying that because she's thinking it's okay for Troy to be a creep (promoting rape culture). Would you rather have a creepy guy take a peep, or be trapped in an underground tunnel with the mob after you? With people after you who you know have already killed someone? The implication to me here is that she got mad at Troy for doing it, hit him, and then ran off to find Bran, probably to tell him about the crappy day she's having, not knowing about the shit he and the others have gotten themselves in. She's thinking that if she hadn't gotten mad at him and ran off, if she had just rolled with it, she wouldn't have ended up trapped there in a dark and scary tunnel with bad guys after them. It sounds like she's accepting sexual harassment, but she's just weighing one bad situation over another one that's worse. Troy is a creep, but him looking down her shirt won't get her killed. Dealing with the Fertellis might. Yeah, that one part where Andy kisses the wrong brother is one of the parts of this movie that didn't age well at all. That part always sort of annoyed me just because it puts her in the classic ditz trope, and I hate those. It's one of those "Yuk yuk, women are stupid" moments that were common in the 80s. Not everyone has to be a brain, but I hate when movies use the trope to send a message that women are dumb. Stephen Spielberg is wonderful, but oof. Yes, she meant his lungs. LOL I take from that scene that she was referring to his lungs, but it was worded the way it was because it's meant to add a little bit of adult humor, something that the adults can get a chuckle out of because it could be taken another way but it would go over a kid's head. Glad you enjoyed this one, guys.
