When you talk about how Twilight Princess builds off of this game, you have no idea how far that rabbit hole goes.
This game obviously built off of Ocarina of Time, OoT built off of Link to the Past, and LttP built off the original Legend of Zelda.
The original LoZ is where you first learn about killing all the enemies in the room and each dungeon having a treasure in it. Some dungeons even have multiple treasures or the treasures are the way to unlock the next dungeon.
It also has a clue system (like the fish in this game) to help you with finding the next dungeons or how to access certain areas, but they are hidden in secret areas that require a lot of random BS that makes sense for an NES game back when you had to find a way to bloat the play time, but absolutely SUCKS if you are doing a blind playthrough as an adult and don't have the time or patience to bomb every single wall, push every single thing, or burn every single bush.
Like, the way through the Lost Woods is a pattern you can only figure out by uncovering a secret room.
Otherwise you just go through the same screen over and over until you go right which dumps you back into the screen you came from.
Or the way to find the final sword upgrade is by pushing a specific gravestone up, but the game programs you not to push from that direction, because you immediately take damage from a ghost that appears from all the other gravestones when you push from that direction.
So, in other words, if you end up doing a blind playthrough of the original LoZ on the channel, it's going to require A LOT of editing for time saving purposes.
Link to the Past is great though. Gets rid of a lot of that but maintains the good parts of the original (we don't talk about "The Adventure of Link").
