I think one thing I've heard said is that the reason in-lore for why Zant goes through all the bosses you've fought and needs similar tactics to defeat is because he really doesn't have any original ideas. He's been given a godly power but he's not trained with it nor has he faced strong opponents that have challenged him and forced him to adapt in order to become stronger. He's just been watching and copying, ironic since his helmet is supposed to resemble a chameleon. That could also play into how he has a cool persona on the outside yet inside he's a petulant child, envious of power and clearly not suited to ruling.
