Some D&D Lore that I think doesn't get covered in the game:
Zariel is the archdevil in charge of the first layer of Hell (Avernus, where Karlach was, where Raphael is from, and where the tieflings in the grove escaped from).
Tiamat is the mother of the chromatic dragons (red, blue, black, green, and white) and has one head for each of the 5 types. She is a minor deity and wants to usurp Zariel.
So, knowing this context, it makes sense that Zariel would want to stop her from growing in power. BUT, she is a devil, so she's not just about to give Wyll the power to stop it if she can also gain something from it.
There is more context to this that is mentioned in the D&D adventure Descent into Avernus, but nothing that is necessary for fully understanding BG3.

Hahaha with the persuasion check you skipped the first phase of the battle and went straight into phase two. So it worked...kinda. Also you definitely definitely did not want Isabel to get kidnapped at Last Light Inn. Saving her prevented A LOT of bad things happening.
