Jhair15 - preview
Added 2024-10-18 12:35:10 +0000 UTCdone with this asset, came out pretty good, I like it :) Not perfect and not hyper detailed, but no major flaws that I can see with it. Most angles look nice and well balanced. Will be cool to finally see it on a full character when it gets ingame.
and speaking of that, I'll import it ingame next and it should be out in a day or two, if all goes well. Only concern here is hair texture size, here's hoping it's not too thin for FO4, or I may have to rebake textures.

Even now, after I made a couple of hairstyles and have accumulated hundreds of hours of experience making them, it's still not smooth sailing when I have to do one of these. But it's also relative, said difficulty is self inflicted per say, as it is my choice to make the hair this complex. I could definitely tone it down and get it done easier, but then it would not look as good. Textures, not particularly, but it can be time consuming to make a set. As long as the texture loosely matches the style you want to make (length/wavy-ness) and there's some variety in it (thinness of the strands and type), it's typically fine. It sometimes helps to have specific shapes in your texture to get a specific effect/look easier, but it's not required. This might surprise you, but the textures themselves don't matter too much, at least for the type of hair models I'm making. The higher the polygon count/model complexity/card density the less the hair textures matter. I'm generally making complex, higher poly models so I rely on the sheer density of the hair cards in the model to give me the look I need, rather than the texture. As for how things look ingame, not sure about others, but for me, the actual tech behind is the limiting factor here. This is true for everything, not just hair, but hair in particular can suffer greatly without some features. A different alpha transparency algorithm would make these models look SO much better ingame, for example. Also, lighting and shaders are king, period. You could have the most gorgeous, perfect assets(models/textures), but you put them in a subpar engine and they're not going to massively improve how things look. Not sure what you mean with the poll, or what it should be about.

The ones we have around nexus to be honest are made of poor quality and sometimes even with your amazing hairstyles that you have available they don’t look that great. Could we have a poll about this please 🥺
