We have several characters that help insert tension in the story or challenge our main characters in new ways (e.g. Arashi's lack of awareness of others' feelings, Sawada's sass, and even Nao's mean streak when he doesn't know how to cope with his feelings) -- but none of them are bad people. It's always more complex than that. I can really appreciate that none of the characters are one dimensional "villians", but complicated kids with strengths and weaknesses that feel very real, and they're just trying to figure things out and get through life. It's rewarding to see different sides of them over time and watch them grow.

2025-01-10 11:57:00 +0000 UTCAfter reading this chapter again, I think we'll have a repeat of the third wheel chapter, but this time Nao is paying full attention to Souta and he's aware that something is wrong with him, so when Arashi is her usual self again and is cold/dismissive of Souta (and I'm pretty sure she will since she's quite frustrated right now), Nao won't like that one bit, his protective instincts will kick in and he'll ditch her to go to the ferris wheel with Souta to talk things out. At least that's what I'm hoping will happen!
