I think you're totally right. It's kind of sad, knowing that she must be well versed in music (and I guess she plays at least an instrument), which is a really emotional art, and despite that not caring or recognising other people's feelings. I'm sorry for her.

She did ask twice before accepting the tickets, and it's natural that she interpreted that as a sign of Souta's rooting for them, but I don't know... They're what? Seventeen? It’s normal to be self-centered at this age, or course, so I don’t think it makes her bad. I encountered so many “friends” at that age who truly only wanted to be with me romantically instead of being my friend. I wonder how Nao will take it, to be honest. Souta has shown time and time again that he would rather risk his own heart than put Nao in that position.

Otherwise, why would Keisuke have been in the scene when Souta gave the tickets away to Arashi?

Keisuke is smart and cares about Souta. There is no way that he wouldn’t tell Nao… at least, this is the likely and calmest scenario. Most likely, Souta will tell Keisuke (because Souta tells Keisuke everything) that Arashi asked him for his help and that she’ll give him the tickets on the Ferris wheel.

2024-12-15 15:18:50 +0000 UTCyeah, it captures the whole highschooler insensitivity/self concerned attitude well. its particular in the way someones self interest dictates how they act and treat others around them. another comment (kaila) mention that arashi more concerned about her feelings for nao than whether he has feelings for her. and that sums her self interest up well to the point she doest even try to know souta on a her and him basis but on a “you’re friends with the guy I like” basis. its not genuinely getting to know someone else, there’s an ulterior motive, innocently enough. all of the other characters feelings seem obvious to the reader but the characters being who they are especially during a specific time in their lives (teenage) will probably be more oblivious to others feelings and especially when they arent friends.

2024-12-15 07:25:32 +0000 UTCI feel like there’s was a really nice build up to this moment with how much of a people pleasing good boy Souta was during the school festival. He’s so completely and 100% selfless. His confidence issues with soccer also helps us to understand that he has a natural disposition to lack self confidence which combined with his people pleasing led him to this moment. When Nao finds out (cause he will find out) that the tickets were something Souta initially got, he’ll be able to put the pieces together cause he’s smart and has been paying attention cause he obviously likes him back. So even if Souta tried to distance himself I don’t think Nao would let him. Arashi is the typical girl that is more concerned about her feelings for a boy than whether or not that boy has feelings for her at all. Setting aside how obvious Souta is about his feelings, Arashi is too self absorbed to see that let alone even consider the possibility that Nao could have feelings for someone else or just not feel the same way. Inoue on the other hand, has learned from her mistake after she confessed to Nao and got chewed out. She understands that she has to be more self aware and aware of others. Inoue is also just a good friend and was initially trying to care for someone she cares about while he was hurting. Her intentions were pure then. Her relationship with Souta is also pure friendship. She doesn’t rely or abuse that friendship in the same way that Arashi does. The fact that Arashi has never been seen with other friends I think is a big red flag. The girl isn’t bothered by other people and is only interested in herself.

If he goes along with it or let himself getting dragged into a romantic relationship with Arashi, we can shape up for a lot of painful updates, where the boys distancing from another. If he rejects her, maybe Souta will get enough confidence to make a move. Either way, it would push the plot a step foward. And not only this: From Nao's raction we can at least guess, what is going on in his mind. If he rejects her, we kind of know, that he accepted, he likes Souta and is aware that it would'nt work out with him and Arashi. If he goes along with Arashis confession, he still has to figure out a lot and is not ready anyway. If Souta and Nao go together on the ferris wheel, I fear that there will be another awkward (almost-kissing) scene or whatever and we are just on the same page from a few chapters ago.

But because she is so self centered and self absorbed, she’s oblivious to everyone else around her and how her actions affect those people. I think what most others like myself take issue with, with her is about the fact that she is so extremely inconsiderate. And it’s not just with/to Souta, it’s obvious she’s been a jerk to Inoua too, and if she’s this way with them, it makes me think her being a selfish mean person is the real her and the cutesy likable attitude is just a facade. I’ve dealt with plenty of fake manipulative people and she seems just like those people. That is why I don’t like or trust her at all.

He already knows Nao is more popular with the girls, and I feel like jealousy or losing heart because your crush is wooed by someone they seem to like and who appears to be "more suitable for them", isn't even a confidence issue but a pretty universal reaction. I don’t appreciate how shes using Naos “best friend” to gain leverage on the situation and asking more and more from Souta. From an outsiders perspective though, she truly just has a teenage crush and might be blindsided by excitement. As much as it’s difficult to enjoy her as a character right now, she’d have to do something despicable for me to actually despise her😓

It’s easy for us to go “Ugh if only!” But for him, he doesn’t know and is only accepting what’s going on. Honestly, at the end of the day, he probably wants Nao to be happy even if it’s at his own expense. Hopefully if/when Nao turns her down, it’s not too harsh. Homegirl’s only shooting her shot.
