I'm reading the comments and everyone is theorizing Nao having a crush first and I just remember the first q&a Aina did when someone asked them to kiss when it was still really early in the comic. Souta was grossed out but Nao blushed. So I think she's been implying for a while that Nao had a "thing" for Souta Lol. Ithink Nao just doesn't know what a healthy romantic relationship looks like because of his parents so he probably doesn't know how to make the first move with someone he likes.

Also Nao: *fades on sight with Souta for the first 5 chapters* 😂😂 Really though, Nao actually was the kid who didn't know what to do about his crush cause feelings. He had so much going on, and as Aina, Souta, and us fans have mentioned, he didn't have time or capacity to focus on liking someone. So he teased his crush for attention. Even before he probably recognized the crush. 🥹 Then soccer comes along and he gets the chance to be closer without having to be annoying. Which brings me back to Takahashi's blackmail. As much as he loves to troll people, he doesn't seem like the type to dangle something as big as a same-sex crush over someone's head. Not without them knowing he'd never actually say anything. But Takahashi also seems very observant, can't be a great troll if you don't know your audience. I feel like he must have noticed Nao's eyes following Souta. He either knew Nao was crushing and downplayed it as a friendship, or genuinely thought Nao just wanted to be Souta's friend. The former seems more likely to me. Maybe he tells Nao how much Souta is looking forward to winning this year, or how Souta wants more players. And that's what makes Nao cave. Not so much the blackmail, but making Souta happy. Ah, I just love them so much.
