I've recently announced on Instagram that I'm going back to my original style (consists of vertical strokes). The reason why I strayed away from it, was because the process was very slow and takes so much out of me. But in quality, I feel like it's unmatched compared to what I've been doing recently.
I've thought for a long time, and have reached the conclusion that my old style is worth it, no matter how slow it is. And I think I've made the right decision, because I've just finished a cover yesterday and it may just be one of my best covers yet. Not only that, I realized how much faster I've become. It's one of the reasons why I want to revisit/finish some WIPs of this style, I may just discover/learn something.

I definitely see the Franklim Booth inspiration. Similary with the artists you mentioned, it reminded me of an artist I learned about in college. Ernesto Caivano, does fantasy storytelling with ink. And Thanks for mentioning Marc Silvestri, just looked him and dig his style.

2024-11-10 16:40:00 +0000 UTCI try a lot of weird ways to paint just to see what works and doesn't. This style just kind of stuck. It's definitely inspired by my previous experiences in line art/cross-hatching. The premise is actually similar to painting regularly, but instead of using blocks of paint, you use lines to render. I also remember one of my teachers told me sketch/draw in one direction during one of my life-drawing classes (using graphite/pencils), long ago when I was just starting out. I didn't really understand what she meant until I found this style.
