First off, thanks for all the support on the Lain video. The reception has been overwhelmingly positive, which is great because that video took so long to make, so it feels good that all the hard work paid off and people enjoyed it. Now, about that photo up there…
Originally I was planning to do something much simpler and quicker for the next video, but that went right out the window after playing a couple hours of Kowloon’s Gate.
So, yeah, the next video is on Kowloon’s Gate, a horror/Feng-Shui/Taoist-philosophy-themed FMV-adventure/1st-person dungeon crawler set in Kowloon Walled City. It’s weird; it’s esoteric; it’s only in Japanese.
I’ve read City of Darkness: Life in Kowloon Walled City by Greg Girard and Ian Lambot, which is a really cool photojournalist look at the history of the city with interviews from residents. And I’ve also been reading the supplemental stuff that came with the game (that little black book in the photo), along with Complete Kowloon’s Gate (the big black book). Lots of interesting details about the creation of the game, so this is going to be another research-heavy video, but I don’t expect it to be as long as the Lain video or take as long to edit. I’m shooting for the 2nd half of March for a release on this one.
Anyway, that’s what’s up. I’m about halfway through a playthrough of the game right now, and the notes on the gameplay and story are piling up. I’m gonna get back to it, but just wanted to keep you all in the loop.
Thanks as always for all the support!
