patreon

would you relocate to a new website

I hate the layouts for most sites and my sibling does website design so i was going to hire them to make me a website that work similar to patreon. theres tiers, pay to view content, email notifications, comments blalala. itll take a lot of work but honestly id rather have my own domain and maybe encourage other artists to do the same. have full control over their space

gimme your input

PS- patreon has a knack for allowing outside sites to link to my account and leak my paywalled content on a regular basis so this would also allow my to control people leaking my content more

Comments

That would put my mind at ease more

CherryRibbon

I suppose you could do something similar to what other creators have done (e.g. notboogie) where they have theor own site for actually hosting the content but still use patreon for billing

ReepicheepPrime

I'm not sure I'd remember to check another site regularly for new content. Plus I'm rarely comfortable sharing any kind of payment info to a site doesn't have a mostly-proven track record for keeping that safe, and from what I understand its even harder for smaller sites to appeal getting banned from something like PayPal.

ReepicheepPrime

Well most of us are not interested in keeping track of a hundred different pay websites but I wish you luck if you decide to leave.

BizyMouse

I'll put my two cents out there and say separate sites/locations for every single artist is a problem. It's hard enough to keep up with things sometimes and managing subscribed content in multiple places is a pain. I'm not saying i wouldn't follow you if you went someplace else, but you probably want to think about how to batch content releases so they are easy to find and download quickly. As for leaks and piracy... those are facts of life, not much you can do about it. They will happen regardless of where you go and it's not worth making it harder for those who do support you. The thing to remember is that we could easily get your content from those leak sites, but we want to support you and make sure you have an incentive to keep creating and making content we enjoy.

NightStormWolf

but you are still stuck on the payment problem. paypal would be a must have for me to follow and you can't make it because its not possible/allowed with a pure nsfw website as far as i know as web developer.

Beladinon

I would say yeah, don't think patreon would really boost your visibility anyways. It surpressed NSFW creators as far as I know.

Sleepyfish

payment would be through paypal and it would be no different than using patreon. you make an account with my site, sign up for your tier, your tier level will unlock sections of the website and allow you to cancel payment but still have access for that month.

Voregence

i can confidently say that time it would take to make a working and pleasing site would not detour me from making one

Voregence

that site has also had data and pay wall leaks so i'd like to avoid third party site with poor security

I switched to Subscribestar years ago.

BizyMouse

As a software developer, I can say there is about a 0% chance that a single web developer could make a site with all those features in any reasonable time frame, so the question is moot.

Zontan Ferrah

No problem following you on another site.

hippiewerewolf

Hard to say, I'd have to see it and make my decision then whether or not I'd use it. I know other artists have made their own websites, either as a replacement for patreon or simply to host all their art but pledges still go through patreon. I guess id have to see your website and decide then weather or not I trust it, not saying you plan on doing anything nefarious but weather I feel comfortable with how you decide to do payment processing and the like. I enjoy your artwork and your comics so I'd definitely consider it if you do, assuming you plan on leaving patreon to use your own. The other artest I'm aware of who made their own website still uses patreon but I believe they made it cheaper if you use their own subscription website.

Joseph

That's *very* not fun

Mudorios

I will understand and still follow your work, but it is nice having everything centralized on Patreon and notifications and stuff. Would be a lot of work to replace all that

Kenwood _

the thing isnt about me, its about potential new supporters. people will not trust every site. you would have to have proofs that its not just some grab and go type of things. also that their payment informations wouldnt be saved and abused later on (happens all the time so people are extremely skeptical) another thing is that some banks might flag it (mine did flag substar and i had to unblock it even tho its trusted site)

Ansemik

its not friendly or safe for the creators. things are leaked all the time and patreon doesnt do anything about it ever. its like having a bank that sells your card information then shrugs when you bring it up

Voregence

I would be making my own site so I can safely say I wouldnt penalize myself for hosting NSFW content. I would eventually develop a version of my site adapted to phones for those people who use phones over computers

Voregence

I would be the one running the site so I can safely say there wouldn't be worry of someone scamming you. it would work similar to this website

Voregence

I’ll do what I need to keep supporting you

henrecklynx13

it would work similar to this site in connection with paypal so if at any point you feel unsafe you can cancel payment on you end

Voregence

Patreon is really nice on the consumer end, it's unfortunate it isn't for the creator Regardless, I'd continue to support you but I'd always keep forgetting to check for your content

Mudorios

I love your art so if I absolutely had to, of follow you wherever lol

Takaaki Ryuhaara

Would be a Problem for me because Most Websites with erotic conctent dosent Support PayPal (erotc isn't allowed) so you will loose me. Second i like to use and view this primary in the App, so the Website isn't relevant for me.

Beladinon

I pledge to a bunch of artists and it's already tough to keep track. You could do your own site in edition to Patreon for fans who don't mind or don't follow too many others, but J wouldn't move completely off

Leno proved God exists but he only likes Conan

i can have a 'phone version' of the website and i think thats what i would do. my bank does the same thing

Voregence

i think patreon is easier for me, and personally it makes me feel somewhat safer about the purchases I make on here

CherryRibbon

depends on how trust worthy people finds it to pledge, there are lots of scam websites

Ansemik

Sure, if you can swing it, but I mostly use the phone app these days so that could be a challenge
