Dancing with Fire

I’m so thrilled by the results of my first attempt to shoot in this interesting, but very difficult corner of my hometown 🔥 I’ve been hoping to create under this gallery for almost a year, not only for its atmosphere, but also because it’s situated quite near my neighbourhood. The main, and most common challenge to face when shooting outside, is ✨ people✨ and this case made no exception: the place is very crowded, especially by night, for this little gallery connects a residential area to a square that hosts several bars and pubs. In order to avoid most spectators, we had to take these photos at 1am; but still risked to be hit by several cars that passed through the gallery at a very high speed 🙈 For these reasons, I had to renounce the idea of a nude shooting, even if it would have been exciting. Second issue, of course, was the flebile light source, and its position. A backlight that is also very high above the subject is not easily approachable, and my camera really struggled to find focus. I thought the candle would help with that, but you will see how undefined most photos came out at the end. It’s a good first try, but I think I’ll keep this place in my bucket list for better future opportunities.

There’s no editing at all, apart from removing a couple of manholes.

Please let me know if you liked this set, and if you have any ideas I might put to practice here in the future 🧚

Here's an idea: If focussing is an issue anyway, close the aperture down a bit and take long exposure photos. That way you can turn movement into a still photo, the right focus on you does not matter that much as you're blurry anyway, and that should go very well with that eery ghostly setting, especially with a flowy dress; maybe also with a candle, but perhaps that would be too much. Getting a good uninterrupted exposure will be difficult of course with cars passing through but even a 5 second exposure should allow for very interesting results. A long exposure nude shoot would be extra interesting as pretty much everything will be left to the imagination. Could be easier too than regular still photography: Bathrobe off, dance through the tunnel for 5 seconds, bathrobe on, done. Faster than trying to get the focus right for a short exposure. You can get very creative there.
