Whitebeard is fighting and keeping himself up, not to save Ace, not to save himself but to tell his allies and crew he's OK so they don't rush to their death to help him. When you think about it. Over half of the characters we have been introduced to in One Piece so far is in Marineford at the same time. Or so it feels to me.

I'm not sure if it's too noticeable as an English speaker, but I noticed a kinda dope shot when Garp attacked Marco. When he's mid-air on his way down from the platform, the camera pans over Garp's face towards his coat where the two Japanese characters spell "Justice". Also fun fact: When Buggy was transmitting his video on the battle field, he wore a Marine coat with the word "Justice" crossed out.

I think it's easy to forget with all the action and everything going on, how much Luffy has already physically been through at this point. It's been over 30 hours since Luffy broke into Impel Down. He's spent 20 hours fighting Magellan's poison at the brink of death and 10 hours fighting enemies straight where we are seeing him right now. The only break he got was an hour ship ride from Impel Down to Marine Ford and he was too anxious to sleep during that time. Plus one shot of adrenaline already, which he would've obviously come down from by now. Adrenaline kicks in hard, but the low after kicks just as bad. I didn't realise it the first time I watched Marine Ford, but yeah, no wonder he's ex-fucking-hausted. Also, there was a bit of a weird translation choice when Luffy begs Ivan for the second shot. He doesn't say "if I cannot rescue Ace, I'd rather take my own life later", he says more something like "if I cannot rescue Ace, I'll be wishing I were dead" (therefore he doesn't care if the adrenaline kills him to achieve his goal). It doesn't matter a whole lot, but the thought of Luffy implying literal suicide just kinda rubs me the wrong way.

oh yes, the manga is absolutely insane in marineford. i dont know how oda did it. basically every chapter is just double-page spreads with so much visual information, its insane. its almost exhausting to read it for an adhd brained person like me, because you have to spend a lot of time on every page to understand fully whats going on, and my brain just always goes "keep going keep going next page nExT PAGE" but you miss half of the action if you do that lmao. when youre done with this arc, youll have to go and look at a few pages of the manga, i swear. i mean i think you said you wanted to read the manga at some point anyway but yeah, if youre curious...absolutely look at a few pages. its insanity.

Okay, I can agree with Jimbie being Luffy's new dad. But Iva is not his new mom. They are clearly the eccentric aunt/uncle who shows up at random and makes everything totally weird yet completely awesome whenever they do.

Yeah, wasn't trying to complain about it. But this is the third or fourth episode it feels like that we've gotten that exact same flashback.

Boom

Trust me, Boom, there is an arc later down the line that feels like half it is done flashback padding. Toei gets really obnoxious with how much they try fill in space.

That shot of that poor Marine getting caught in Whitebeard's attack, struggling to even figure out where the ground is, only to realize he and dozens of his comrades are up in the sky is one of my favorites.
