You said it a long ways back in your reaction but Luffy has barely made an appearance in what 8-10 episodes I'm estimating that's including the Straw Hats whereabouts to me that's a sign of elite storytelling where the MC doesn't need to be present at all times to make a compelling story every character and storyline is so in dept that you don't have to rely just on the MC to carry the story.

As to the question about Whitebeard's weapon, it's either a Naginata or a Bisento (The two are more or less the same thing in the context of his weapon) and it's one of the 12 Supreme Grade Blades along side Mihawk's Yoru, named Murakumogiri
