On the ITCH Situation

TLDR:

• I do not expect my content to be affected, but you never know with these sudden purges.

• In the worse case scenario, my games will be moved onto my own site (https://nranchsgames.com), although it might take a day or two to get that to work.

Greetings everyone, I think it might be a good moment to do the whole public statement thing. As you are doubtlessly aware, the site where my games are hosted; itch.io; will be making massive changes to its content policies, and during that process all adult (and some queer SFW content) has been de-indexed. This is happening due to a campaign of a puritan pressure group aimed at VISA and MasterCard (who have proven themselves also more than eager puritans over the decades, for those in the know).

I have been around the adult content space for long enough that this development hasn't come as much of a surprise, but it is always heartbreaking when it does happen. My support goes out to all my affected fellows in the gamedev space, especially those for whom creating adult content was their last lifeline in this oft cruel and unjust world. My content is largely light entertainment, but for many, adult content is an expression of the deepest self, and that capital-A *Art* is likely to be hit hard in the upcoming purge. This is not how a healthy society treats its artists.

I do not expect my content to be affected by the upcoming policy changes on itch.io, as we pass similar purity requirements on Patreon, but unfortunately there is no way to be sure until the bans start dropping. Itch might be incentivized to do a rushed and heavy-handed job with its moderation, and a lot could be caught in the crossfire. Regardless, I do not use itch.io for my payment processing, so my finances won't be directly affected even if my stuff got removed, but it would still be a big setback.

Were the worst come to pass, I will keep communicating through Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/c/nranchs) and my Discord (https://discord.gg/dxtehs4xgb). In that case, the downloads and web builds are likely to be moved onto my own site (https://nranchsgames.com). The server is quite slow; it was never meant as a content host; but it will do in a pinch. It might take a day or two to get everything to work (stuff like itch.io's full-screen mode will have to be coded into the games themselves). But, hopefully none of that will be needed, fingers crossed.
