Spoilers for the 29th of August 2022

Greetings, my adorable Patreons~


This week, I thought I would take a moment to discuss future plans. It has been about a year since the first version of Rogschard has been released, and we have come a long way since then. Character images used to be in black and white, the side panels did nothing, stats checks weren't even functional yet, and you couldn't level up. A week before I released v0.1.0.0, it didn't even have a map.

The game uses a small framework called Undum for its base. I can't recommend using it for your own projects unless you are very confident in your programming, as there are some major bugs and limitations in the framework you will have to fix by hand. But it hardly matters at this point, I have rewritten most of it over this year to suit my needs. The original source code was about 2000 lines of javascript, the current Patreon version of Rogschard sits at about 100000.


But, enough history, let us talk about the future. 


Progression:

I hope the Map combat update will be the last major engine change, at least for the foreseeable future. It will allow me to add a lot more gameplay that doesn't require large heaps of writing, which is currently the largest production bottleneck. The loot systems will need a rework, we have a lot more items now, and gear and items are becoming a lot more important for game balance. The current plan is to add specific loot tables to certain enemy types, instead of rolling against one big loot table. Or perhaps some combination of both, testing and practicality will show what works best in the end.

Once that is done, I will expand the skill selection. Map combat allows an enormous heap of additional options for attack types, and I will be filling in the gaps as I go. More armor sets are coming, but as they require art they take a while to make.


Dungeons management:

This is currently well on track. I will be adding more research, buildings, floors, and raids as we go. Some late-game stuff will be locked behind certain dungeon buildings, and I hope to add some special events in the future.


Story:

I won't be giving any spoilers about this one. But, I can at least say that the main story won't be wrapping up any time soon. There are at least four or five more big dungeons planned, and if I manage to ship them within a year, I will be very shocked. Besides that, there should also be a bunch of side content, so that will be fun.
