Yeah, it's common in Ireland to have wakes. Nowadays a lot more people have them in funeral homes but there's still a lot held in the house and people come to pay their respects. And of course there's food and drinks in the pub after the funeral, and there might be a sing-song as well. I wouldn't say everyone is as comfortable around the body though - I'm definitely not. I always just rather remember the person as they were - they never look like themselves in the coffin. Also, at the end of the first episode when they were talking about Erin's "scoots" at the table, they meant diarrhoea - that's what they blamed the blocked toilet on! I love that the finale with them finally embracing James is also symbolic of the wider ceasefire and peace between Ireland and the UK.

It's on Netflix (hopefully it's still on there), and it's so stinkin cute. WELL worth a watch!!!

2025-01-27 17:19:01 +0000 UTCwakes would be extremely common here in ireland which is why the girls are so used to seeing the dead body - the body is there in the house for the few days leading up to the funeral, people would come to pay their respects to the person and their family and its seen as a celebration in a way of the persons life where stories etc are shared to try and lighten the mood during very mournful times and then after the funeral there is a party aswell- donβt think it is as common in england which is why james is a bit freaked out

It was such a nice thing put together that in series 1, the news announcement is that there is fighting going on while all the girls are laughing and dancing but in this episode the news is that peace is coming while all the girls are fighting.
