Macroxxie Full Demo

And here it is! The finished demo of the Macroxxie fight, with all of her grabs, KOs, and sounds thereof! I think it should relatively bug free, as I've fixed the bugs from last time, not really changed much, and done my share of testing, but as always let me know if there are any issues and I'll get them fixed up.

I hope you all enjoy!

P.S. If you have issues running the game, try going to the 'options' file in the game folder and changing some of the 0s to 1s. People have reported some success with that.

Compared to the earlier content, seeing a lot of growth in this fight, in more ways than 1 that is. The one thing about this I could say is that, I can't be the only one having trouble with the tail slams throwing Texas into the air, right? I saw on other comments that it's always fixed, but considering how long it takes to get to that attack, I think that combined with how fast they are makes them feel very unforgiving and by that I mean, more so than any other attack I've seen from Macroxxie, because if you get that, then the fight felt practically over to me. Still, aside from that, kudos for the success of this boss fight! From the framing in the center, there's a lot of clarity going on in this fight and it all feels like it came together pretty well to me.

Ah! Thank you so much! ^^ I'm very glad you enjoyed it despite the frustrations. The TNT movement was such a tricky bit of code I sadly just had to leave it as 'functional' in the end. I had plans to be able to lasso it and such, but it was just an absolute nightmare to get working. Really this whole fight was one big experiment to see if I could mix things up for the final boss, so I'm glad it seems to be going over well, on the whole. I *might* be able to get the final release done before Christmas, with a bit of luck, but then again, this final release won't be the FINAL final release, as I still have a secret bossfight to work on...

After playing through this fight a few times I think it's really well made! Sure it's absolutely brutal at first but literally every move is telegraphed well and the extra lives help to make sure that you get a grasp of the next set of moves before probably dying! I really like how clean all of the moves feel I beat her 5 times now and there was not a single time I felt like I was hit by a move that I think should've missed. April's timing with the tnt feels pretty good though and she's a helpful indicator of when you have a chance to actually do damage! The tnt can be just a bit frustrating to move around I spent awhile on the first part of the fight just moving it around trying to get a better feel for to move it! It's just a bit clunky, but I can't really imagine how else it could function. Though being unable to move the tnt while squished can be annoying mainly during the first phase! I do find it a bit strange that getting blown up by the tnt doesn't harm Texas in anyway whatsoever! The best strategy I found for making sure I get through the first tnt phase was just to face tank the tnt blast to make sure I had enough time to get it to Roxxie's face! I do really like that moving of the tnt is done by Roxxie in the next two phases that mitigates a lot of annoyance on the harder phases! I really like the whole insta-death aspect of this uping the stakes for the final fight feels good, but I'm not a fan of how safe the center of the map is! In the first two phases you really can get away with moving just slightly around the center of the map without any real risk. The second phase does make it just slighlty harder to stay in the middle, but Roxxie hopping across the stage is so well telegraphed that just moving a few steps up or down is more than enough to evade it I think a grab attack that aims directly to the center would make the first two phases more than just dancing circles around the center until tnt comes! Another thing regarding the difficulty I'm personally not a fan of is when Texas recieves the non lethal sqush under most circumstances I found that it wasn't even that big of a problem unless being squished forces you to miss-out on a tnt opportunity! That can be a bit frustrating, but I think that frustration is acceptable because it makes the non-lethal squish more threatening. I think that the squish effect should either last longer or slow Texas down more, maybe even just half hit texas so being squished feels more directly impactful instead of only impactful if it makes you miss a tnt phase!! it's a bit sad that the signature lasso and kick don't have any use but it makes sense against a living skycraper! All of that being sad I think you've done an incredibly good job here! Taking Trouble in Texas and managing to make a three phase fight against a macro boss to finsih it off must've been incredibly difficult! I would like to note that my complaints above didn't ruin my experince by any means they're just the few things that keep the fight from being perfect in my eyes, and I'm beyond excited for the final release so I can get the long awaited reunion of the Sheriff and her deputy!

DumbDumbFox

Oof, fair enough! I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it, and will take that feedback on-board. Sadly I just needed new mechanics for fighting a macro-sized enemy, and these were what I could put together. Though I do just want to let you know that the tail slam always hits the same spots. Left, right, middle, which should help you avoid it. As for the insta-death. It's punishing, definitely, but at the same time, she is the size of a skyscraper, and drops extra lives each time you blow her up. Still, I appreciate you getting through it despite the frustration. There probably won't be another fight like this for a while!

SquashedFlat

Really unforgiving boss fight, not in a good way. Some notes, the tail slam has very little reaction time or indication of where it's going to hit. The foot stomp where she stomps two vertical and two horizontal has very little reaction time. You have to stand in the center basically and the center one gives ample time to react. If you're not standing in the center for the two vertical and horizontal you're just insta hit. All of these being insta-kills on top of having to navigate the TNT finicky mechanic for the first time in the game at this insta-death boss is rather bad game design. The animations look great. But I can't understand why you introduce so many new mechanics on a insta-death boss. The suck for example can be rather hard to react to the first time. In-short, learning very new mechanics with failure being punished heavily, leads to a very frustrating boss fight. Okay, I got to the third stage of the boss fight. Why does she combine all of the moves you have to avoid? It's all instant death Squashed, all new mechanics, yikes. And I don't know what opening she gave me to use for the third stage to use TNT... First was put it up near her face, really finicky, the second was suck. Works well enough, especially from the front. But there's design flaws in that in-order to figure this stuff out. You just have to get hit by it the first time to learn, and waste precious lives in this fight. Or ask you for a guide. Keep up the content, I'm looking forward to both games. But my gosh mercy with these boss fights. Quantum knight is a much better example of introducing a lot of mechanics while teaching the player how to use them. The final TNT box shoot should probably be slowed-down, right now it feels more like a 'screw you player' if you miss it. Instead of what it should be, a final 'congratulations cool ending' shot.

Reapergod36

Nice job! Glad you managed to get through!

SquashedFlat

I dont think they put any kos for grabs tbh if you look at the logs you don't see anything so I don't think it's a bug

xX_RAGNAROK 125_Xx

Not seen anyone mention it and I'm not sure if it's actually a bug or not, but Roxy only seems to do the KO animations for everything except the grab ones when it's your last life.

Warewolf

Jesus that fight was brutal ughhh I finally finished it now there's a secret ending 😅 oi vey

xX_RAGNAROK 125_Xx

I can! When you win the fight and Roxxie shrinks back down, stand under her shadow.

SquashedFlat

I can not for the life of me figure out how to get the secret ending :D Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Kreated88

Yeah, the pause hasn't been added to this fight yet. I'll try to get the TNT lassoable but that might be finicky on the coding end, haha. Still worth a shot though!

SquashedFlat

Thanks! I'm really glad you like it!

SquashedFlat

Just something I’ve noticed, no idea why I can’t do it. Maybe I’m pressing the wrong button, but I can’t seem to pause the game or go to a menu. I have to let the game play out. The rest of the demo is pretty good save for how hard she is (not a bad thing, I love hard bosses). If I could suggest one thing, maybe have the tnt be lassoable and easier to move around, cause I’ve noticed that the tnt can be very finicky to get it where you need it to go. All in all you’ve done some great work~! And the secret ending is pretty dang good to~

Jomonkey 27

Great bossfight! I think most of the other ones are a little too easy to win but this one is great.

opponent12

Fair enough! I played around with the length, but I found anything shorter and you often missed out on some moves Roxxie has.

SquashedFlat

Oh, yes, I completely forgot that... Should be able to get that done this week.

SquashedFlat

What sort of system are you running? Is it a PC or laptop? Do you know what spec your system is?

Locorotor

I can't get it to work :( I've changed 1's and 0's all around, but if it works, it freezes at certain events like the initial buttdrop or even just TNT entering the arena

Bill Williams

I feel like the tnt takes a bit to much time arriving, maybe that's just me.

Rand

I played through the demo and saw all the animations but I didn't see a zoom up on roxxie when you are getting the secret game over. Is it too hard to program in or did you forget? And I'm not saying anything bad It still a great game to play.

Aiden Olney

A fair point! I've avoided scream effects for the most part as that's getting a little too close to voice acting for my liking. The whoosh effects are possible, they'd probably just have to be *very* minor to avoid getting repetitive. Also there aren't any escape arrows for the Macroxxie fight. In the end a lot of the grabs happened too fast to have a proper struggle portion.

SquashedFlat

Ah dang. The sprite layering has been one of the more complicated parts of the entire process, since Texas has a variable one that changes naturally as she moves up and down the stage, Roxxie has a fixed one that I change depending on her moves, and the TNT box is a weird hybrid which causes all sorts of problems. But thank you!

SquashedFlat

Had a short playthrough, and is so great! I haven't checked out everything present here, but what I have seen has stirred me in the right way. One slight issue I feel, I sort of feel like Texas herself is missing sound effects. I feel like, even when she's not hitting anybody, there was still a "woosh" sound effect to her punches. On top of that, I feel like she should be shouting in alarm as she's about to be destroyed in one of the ko animations Also, I don't think I saw any of the escape arrows as of yet

Nick Davis

I played through the demo. Great work on everything. It runs smoothly and was a tough challenge but I had fun. Here are a few things I found: You cannot backdash for some reason on the very bottom of the stage. This caught me off guard and led to a few deaths. The layering for the tnt crate is off on some death animations. The one I noticed was the twerk of death where it was in front of Roxxie the whole time. The TNT hitbox is still a bit wonky on hitting Roxxie for Phase 1. I swear I blasted it right next to her on the left side of her face and still was not considered a hit. Again these are very minor. Great work.

Locorotor

Interesting... Though I will point out that it only runs on windows. I believe the difference in the options is for older graphics cards vs newer graphics cards. Game maker has problems with laptop chipsets.

SquashedFlat

to everyone playing on Windows the options need to look like this: [Windows] CreateTexturesOnDemand=0 AlternateSyncMethod=1 VertexBufferMethod=0 SleepMargin=10

Locorotor

This is just the Macroxxie fight. The rest of the game is *technically* there, but I wouldn't recommend trying to access it, as I can't guarantee its stability in this update.

SquashedFlat

is this the whole demo, or just the macroxxie fight? cause i ended up deleting the whole game on accident lol
