Update 2: Slight Change of Plans

Hey everyone,

In the update earlier today I said I was planning to release both demos by the end of this month, and split this Patreon page in two. After looking into it a little further, that isn't exactly easy to do, so I'm going to change the plan slightly. The Texas demo will be coming out this month. You can count on that, come hell or high water. The QK demo I will work a little more on, getting individual game over screens done for each enemy, and I will release that for free, publicly, early next month. I will then use that demo release to launch a separate Patreon page for the QK project, and they will officially be two separate projects.

To clear up any confusion: Going forward I always plan to have two projects going at any one time (as I have been since I started the QK project last year). My main project, which will always be on this page, and a side project, which will be on my new Patreon page, and cost less per month to support (as I only work on it two days a week, rather than three). Currently the main project is Texas in Trouble, and the side project is the unnamed Quantum Knight game. After Texas in Trouble is done (still debating adding a secret boss), I will most likely move to Time Wolf 2 as my main project, and after the QK game is done (however far down the line that is), I will likely make a point-and-click adventure game starring Texas.

Anyway, sorry for the runaround on these! Expect to see the Texas demo here in the next few days, and the QK demo on DA and FA early next month.

Thanks again everyone!

Glad you liked it!

Great work! I ended up getting all 3 endings and everything I saw was a real treat. Can't wait for full release! <3

Xenny

It would be a good send off though! And that way you could leave it with no regrets.

Doktor

Fox Quest really did fall by the wayside... The art is so outdated now, and admittedly I've somewhat forgotten how to use Adventure Game Studio, the program I was making it in. Damn but I had some ideas I was eager to do with that game. But I shall recycle them somewhere else, I think.

SquashedFlat

I’m excited to see the full releases of these! Thank you for your hard work. A little sad that we aren’t getting the Fox Quest point and click, though.

RJ

I think smart asses getting the tables turned on them and getting beaten is even more enjoyable!

Bob Hoskins

Absolutely! But there's still more to come

SquashedFlat

Thank you. The worst of the stress should be passed now, with any luck! And I appreciate the support.

SquashedFlat

Haha, yeah, that's pretty much Samantha's deal. More cocky and wise-cracking rather than Texas's straight up toughness. But thank you!

SquashedFlat

This means that we will be able to fight her with the moves we've seen here on patreon?

xddjoba

All good man. Glad to hear you understand. Also sorry to hear about the stress you were under the pass few weeks, I didn't know. I do look forward to both projects. Let us know when you have the second Patreon up and I'll sign up.

Locorotor

You do you, man. Been here for years and a few dry spells aren't gonna scare me off. Take your time and avoid burnout. Also Time Wolf 2? F yeah! Samantha is a great protagonist! Maybe not as tough as Tex, but definitely more of a smart ass (If the interactive are anything to go by.) Staying tuned~

I don't assume it will be either. It will need to grow over time, in the same way that the Texas project did. But it's also a less expensive option for those who find the Texas project's prices a bit high. As for the streams, yes, I've had the luxury of using them interchangeably as I was working on the QK project under the umbrella of the Texas project. Going forward that will not be the case. Texas will be limited to three days a week, and QK will get two. They are two different projects with two different groups of supporters, and one cannot be sacrificed for the other. As for announcing when streams won't be on I can only apologise. These last few weeks have been some of the most stressful I've dealt with in the duration of my game work, and I have let standards slip somewhat in that regard. A lot of last minute decisions regarding what work I needed to do on certain days. Things should hopefully be back to normal now.

SquashedFlat

First of all, thank you for giving us an update on the situation. I think you made the smart decision of waiting till you had a demo of QK before starting the second Patreon, and that you are giving the first demo out for free to let people try it out. I do look forward to both projects. Now to be critical: I am concerned about what you might think is profitable with the QK project. I don’t think it will have the same number of Patreons right off the bat as the Texas project. I do hope I am wrong. I am certain over time it will get more as you add more content, so don’t immediately rethink this decision when you don’t have that many Patreons at the start. Also, in the past I have seen you used a QK stream to work on Texas, while I am ok with you doing that if you are trying to get a Texas demo out faster; however, you will need to let Patreons and those that watch ahead of time to know that is the case as some will not like knowing that they show up to a QK stream and you are working on Texas work or animation not associated with your projects. I do recommend you let people know more about these streams in advance. I have not been watching them as much over the past few weeks, but I did show up to a QK stream and you weren’t online nor did you give any update on FA as to why.

Locorotor

Ah, gotcha. I see now.

CrystalKiller88

May. This will be the demo for Roxxie's basic AI, then I can get to work on the more fetish-y animations.

SquashedFlat

Just to make sure I understand, do you mean that the Texas demo will release by the end of May or June? Just making sure I understand since there isn't much time left in May.

CrystalKiller88

I understand your position, and I would absolutely LOVE to keep everything on this page, but sadly I just don't think it's viable. And I do appreciate hearing your opinion on this. Having people disagree with your decisions makes you have to think twice about if you've made the correct one, after all. But thank you. I hope you enjoy both games when they come out.

SquashedFlat

I just wanted to share what I think. I apologize too. I will stay here for the main games and I would like to rise the tier if I could get all your content here. Of course, it's only just old me.

I created that time to work so that I could start a second project. There would not be the extra work time without the second project. In addition, this is not a regular job. My income does not scale linearly with the hours/days I put into a project, so working two extra days on the Texas project does not result in a 2/3rds increase in my income. If you do not wish to back the second project, that is your prerogative, and if you're unhappy with my work ethic, I can only apologise. But even without the second project, Texas would still only be getting worked on three days a week, so it would be no closer to completion than it is now.

SquashedFlat

As I said, it's up to you how to make your plan for followers/backers. My problem about your plan is; you were making a game, Texas and we are backing it. Then you create a time to work with this kind of stuff and you choose to create another game with extra payment requirement for us rather then working more on Texas and finish it faster/deliver updates or content more frequently. As a result, rather then we get a better/faster developed main game, we get another game which is not a step further to we got now and we need to pay to see it too. For me, if you would go for your main games full time and create more content and more games, you may get the extra money already with more backers. I could understand this if you made a totally different kink based game so you may say that you pay which one you want so see, but both projects are about same concept. Again, it's up to you and I understand why you do that, but I think it's not the right way for me who is supporting you by fire and forget style if you even not add any content at all.

While I would love to host the QK project on this page as well, the problem is that Patreon is not set up to handle patrons subbing to multiple tiers. Say I have 4 rewards I want to offer: Texas Art for $5, QK Art for $3, Texas Demos for $10 and QK Demos for $6. I can't simply set up those four tiers, because if someone wants the art from both, they can only choose the Texas Art tier or the QK Art tier. They can't choose two separate tiers to support. That means I would need to split my Patreon into EIGHT different tiers: -QK art ($3) -Texas art ($5) -QK Demo ($6) -QK Art + Texas Art ($8) -Texas Demo ($10) -Texas Art + QK Demo ($11) -Texas Demo + QK Art ($13) -Texas Demo + QK Demo ($16) Which is going to get confusing for new patrons. I would LOVE to simply have both projects on this page, but from looking into it, I really do think the best option is to split it into two. It's the same cost to patrons as it would be if they were on the same Patreon page, but it makes it much less confusing figure out at what level you want to support, and is much more nicely compartmentalised. If the issue is more to do with paying separately for the second project, I can understand that, but that has always been my plan for the QK game. I was working 3 days a week on the Texas project, but last year left my job so that I could work the 2 extra weekdays on this new project, hoping to make enough money to make this a sustainable job (Hence why the prices for the QK project are going to be 2/3rds the prices of the Texas project). For the last ten months my goal has been to get to this point, so I could split the QK project off and hopefully start making enough from Patreon to find my own place, survive on the income and do this as my full time job. If I can't do that, I will have to scrap the second project entirely and find some part-time work instead. I appreciate your position on this, but please appreciate mine too.

SquashedFlat

Thank you! But the end it still a fair ways off just yet.

SquashedFlat

Thanks! I do really want to do that secret fight, but the Texas project is getting bloated as-is!

SquashedFlat

Thanks!

SquashedFlat

Thank you! I hope you enjoy it.

SquashedFlat

I appreciate your hard work, I can't wait to try the demo, It brings me both joy and sadness knowing we are approaching the end of the Texas project😭

MilkyBehemoth

If you wanna hear a fair and personal criticism, I am against to make different patreon accounts for every project from same creator. I can understand if the other project is something a bigger one which got some more creator involved like a development team, but if it's from same individual, I think it should be one patreon. My logic is, I am backing "you" for the "content" you create. You can change your tiers, you can make more expensive one as you think you are working harder, they are fine as I will support you still. But when you make different patreon for your different project which are same fetish/concept related, it does not feel right as I already support you but need to join another patreons for more from you.. It's like a comic artist would open a different patreon for every comic series he makes. Another point is, as you develop a game and it's slow (as I do it too, I know it's totally normal and very hard to do alone), you content is limited already. So people like me who backs you most of the time even not for every month, does not expect any content per month but support you as you develop your game already. Now you want to create another patreon which backers should wait for a long time to finish your other project without much things to see in the time/progress. Sry for my not good english but I hope I could explain what I feel about this. Of course, the choice is still yours.

Do the secret boss, you know you want to~. I think I made my opinion clear on the poll posts so I won't rehash it, lol. Good luck with the wrap up on the demos for both! Hopefully the launch for QK goes really well!

Doktor

Oh is that so!, now i understand, well i wish u all the good luck for the next patreon page!

TurlessFX

Understood. Good luck with your work, and am excited to see teh demo
