I was also cautious when meeting wild raccoons, but all of them were friendly and showed no signs of aggression or weird behavior, so I felt very confident. Keep in mind, raccoon claws are like your average cats claws, so if they do attack, it's hard to get them off you and that's why one should be very careful and respect all animals. I had to fight with every fiber in my body not to pet any of the raccoons because I wouldn't like to be petted by strangers, and neither would them.
