Update // November, take two

Alright, let’s try this again - now with 20% more feeling and 80% more coffee:

Welcome to November everyone!

After what has simultaneously felt like the shortest, yet most tightly packed year of my life, we’re nearly at the end line, where we’ll all huddle to either look on with blind optimism for a better 2026 or clench our cheeks and hobble forward praying it somehow doesn’t get worse.

Another line we’re quickly approaching is the one I laid out at the start of this year in this very important update, detailing the future of this Patreon starting in 2026.

As I mentioned in that update, the changes would happen progressively and be adapted as I got more information regarding the timeline of my upcoming surgery. At the time of writing this, that timeline has frustratingly become more of a timesquiggle given the unimpressive patient care and communication I’ve received since I started the process, so with that in mind I’ll be sitting down with the roadmap this month to evaluate how to proceed and what adjustments to make before the gears start turning next year. Please check out next month’s update for more information on that.

And now, with that unseasoned block of text out of the way, let’s get to business:

Rewards will remain closed this month, but a full batch will open in December, so rub your mitts and get those points warmed up.

Additionally, rewards from past applications have now been allocated. Thank you for your patience!

(If you haven't signed up to Starstickers or you've lost the URL in the 238 tabs you've had open since 2014, here's a handy link)

So, MCM London. What a wild ride, on top of a year that already had me doing wheelies I was absolutely not strapped in for.

Proof that I'm 100% alive and totally not a husk held upright with nylon strings

Although at the end of 2023 I had decided to wrap up convention appearances for good, there’s a certain itch you can’t scratch behind a computer when it comes to putting your art out into the world and so, 100% against my better judgement, I decided to jump back into the pool for 2025 and show up for both May and October.

And I’m ecstatic that I did - not so much for the profit, which has arguably made the return on investment less than ideal in recent times - but because of the experience of getting to meet new and old folks and feel the love and appreciation for my craft from both customers and fellow artists. And during this past event in particular, I had the extraordinary honor to be visited by SO many of my Patreon supporters, as well as my followers on social media and people who have deliberately beelined to my stall every time I’ve been there. The number of familiar faces and names was so large by the end that I felt like I was in the cameo episode of a 90’s sitcom.

In all seriousness, the experience was so humbling, in the best of ways, and so sweet, and it really brought home that elusive feeling that what you do, and who you are, matters.

I honestly couldn’t be more grateful for that, as well as certain that this is, for real this time, a good time to call it a wrap on doing events.

I realised, in the course of this event, that while I’ve been really privileged to have been able to put myself out there at a convention that’s notoriously hard to get into, I am also extremely lucky  to have this community of supporters that have been backing me and allowing me to access those spaces for 8 years now (yup, it’s our anniversary!). And as I start treading the path towards my roadmap goals, the Patreon deserves my undivided attention going forward, to make sure that I do things right, and fairly and with a clear, rested mind.

Because, good lord I am tired. I have stretched myself so thin over 2025 that I could practically touch two continents if you laid me flat.

So with the single-minded ambition to not see myself crumble into dust before I can fulfill all my commitments, from now on I will be doing my best to finally cash in all those nap tokens you sweet souls have purchased on Starstickers, give my brain a good old “turn it off and on again” and center myself around my priority: all of you.

I sure hope you’re not lactose intolerant, because damn that was a whole lot of cheese.

Anyway, have some links:

I'm so glad you had all these lovely people come up at MCM and it was an absolute pleasure to meet you in May 🧡 All rest is well deserved and health first above all. Be the nap cat you always wanted to be this winter after all the stress!!
