I don’t know if I’ll ever post this. This is supposed to be coming from a more meaningful place but I don’t trust how the internet spins narratives to paint people in such a negative light.
I generally find shindom much more interesting. What I like about LAS is that their relationship subversives norms in multiple ways and not just the lazy face value way. It’s not just the ‘tsundere is domineering towards the MC’, because eoe shows this dynamic imploded on itself. Who wouldve thought being abrasive would make your relationship all apart. It’s just easier to assume asushin is the typical dynamic you’d see in anime since it’s so prevalent across anime when I think ots really not the case here. Or at least it wouldn’t be as interesting to me if it was just like that (rebuilds are an egregious example)
fSo for their relationship, assuming it gets healthier post eoe, to just go back to their old ways just wouldn’t make sense to me.
I can’t get behind asuka just “wearing the pants” in the relationship especially since half the times she acted like a brat toward him, she actively bitched at him to be more self assured (unless it threatened her position as a pilot). Ironically he failed her in every other area but beat her in the one area she was the most prideful in, her pilot status, all without trying that hard.
Since they both have that desire to be more self actualized, they both need to navigate power dynamics. they both clearly long for assertiveness and it’s why I think they’ll actually switch roles time to time as I see them both having outlets where they have dominant roles.itll make for a much more transformative story to see how their relationship evens out as they commit to respecting each others needs and desires.
