For the past two-three years (who keeps count?) I've been building my portfolio of portrait commissions, with the occasional half body and full body commission sprinkled in for good measure.
And while it's great and fantastic that I'm well up in the 100s of high quality portraits and 50s of sketch portrait commissions, it's really time for me to delve into actual illustrations with the characters engaging in the environment with a story. I am nervous and actually a bit hesitant to try, because I really don't like feeling like a newbie - at least not with art. Cmon art, we've been doing this for so long. We should be best friends by now!
Anyway, me and school and structured learning never quite got along. I am nervous still that I'll give up - which would suck!
I started off early June with a collection of lessons via ctrlpaint.com, roughly 101 videos spread over 24 lessons. Self assembled curriculum on my weaknesses and foundations I feel I don't know enough about.
I just finished the 24th lesson yesterday. Round of applause please! I am as surprised as you are that I managed to finish it. Although I haven't finished all the studies yet - but I did do a tiny study. I'll write a new post later about the details of it for you.
For this post is to show off the book I just picked up from the library! Color and Light by James Gurney is a book I've seen mentioned maybe thousands of times and it's time to put it to the test. I can't tell you yet if it's gonna be any useful as I haven't even flicked through it yet!
Let's hope I learn something. Will keep you updated as I decide how to best tackle this book. Been a while since I studied like this.
Sidenote, also working on this HUGE commission of Geralt and Company! WISH ME LUCk. I'm so excited!
