Patreon making changes
Added 2017-12-07 01:49:51 +0000 UTCHi guys,
It appears that Patreon is going to change the way that it charges you all. Right now, you pledge $2 to me (or 5, or 10 or more) and you pay $2. I receive a portion of that - they subtract some processing fees (usually around 10 percent by the time it's all said and done).
I guess from now on, they'll be charging you fees on top of your pledge. :/ this means from now on I'll get a flat 95% of what you pledge (like I said, right now it's usually around 88/89%). But it means slightly more for you.
I don't really like changing things on you guys, but it's not my choice.
I could try to adjust the pledge levels, but I'm not sure I can do partial dollar pledges.
Sorry for the unexpected change :/
This all starts on the next billing cycle at the end of the month. According to patreon: A new service fee of 2.9% + $0.35 will be paid by patrons for each individual pledge starting on December 18th.
This means $2 - $2.40, $5 - $5.49 (or 5.50, depending on how they round), $10 - $10.63, $50 - $51.80 and $100 - $103.25. (Keep in mind, this is my math, not theirs).
I know it's the holidays and all, so it seems like an extra crappy time to up the ante. Boo.

Patreon has been making a lot of changes lately. A month or so ago they came down hard on the community of XXX games funded through Patreon, specifically those games whose content included more taboo subjects like rape or incest. A lot of them have been scrambling to go back through their entire games and re-edit just to stay within the new guidelines and keep from being booted, and losing all their funding. And now this, which seems an even more widely unpopular move. It's a bummer. Patreon is a great way for creators to create. I just with they'd keep their hands off the content.

2017-12-08 04:12:01 +0000 UTCI totally agree. I think it's much better to keep things straight forward for you as the subscriber, and it's a way for patreon to sneak in more fees. It's particularly problematic for people who are on the lowest tiers of support because it's not a flat percentage, it's 2.9% plus .35. Now, thirty-five cents is not a lot of money, but if you like to support several creators at a low level, all of a sudden your support goes up by almost a third! Bah. Humbug.

2017-12-08 02:14:20 +0000 UTCPersonally it's not that big of a deal, but it also seems all sorts of skeevy. It makes me want to jump ship from Patreon on principle. Taking a look at twitter, there is no support for this change from either backers or creators. Lots of creators are keeping updates on how much this has hurt them already. Classic vote with your wallet situation, but backing out on principle hurts people I want to support like yourself. For now I'll just wait and see I guess?

2017-12-08 00:02:14 +0000 UTCPfffft The only thing I find disturbing about your message is spelling maths incorrectly :) An extra couple of cents is still a bargain for you're audiophile quality voice & top level Filth.

2017-12-07 08:49:09 +0000 UTCOh no, that's just when it goes into effect - so at the start of Jan when you are charged, it will be the new rates. and thank you for your support!
