A surrogate would not help in the case of the woman with Huntington's Disease. It comes from an inherited chromosomal disorder. So if it has her DNA, the child will have a 50% chance of getting it. But you are correct in the fact they can adopt. They could technically get a donor ova so that the child does not have her DNA, but in truth she probably shouldn't get pregnant. The stress and physical changes could lead to earlier onset of the disease's progression.

2025-08-09 03:06:25 +0000 UTCThe jokey inappropriate comments from Cooper aren’t great anyway but they do feel a lot worse when the scene after you see him being a pedeatric doctor. I agree it’s better to be safe that sorry when it comes to the mum potentially abusing the daughter. I think most decent people if there’s an actual explanation, at least after the initial shock would be glad that a doctor is trying to protect kids. Regarding the woman finding out if she has huntington’s, I did one of those DNA test things a few years ago to see if i have any potentially hereditary diseases. I’m adopted so it’s the only way i could find out. I did come up positive for one thing, some potential blood defect or something and promptly decided to ignore it. So i’m not sure the test was all that worth it overall… I think a lot of things charlotte said here were very unfair, especially to Violet. I think i’d also be tetchy after 3 hours sleep in 3 days though. Still doesn’t excuse it. The whole “women must have a baby to feel complete” or whatever is very annoying yeah. It’s something i’ve noticed a shift with in recent years thankfully but it is still bad. Just let people make their own decisions about if they want kids. God that story you told about the doctor not helping you is awful. I’m sorry you had to experience that. You always hear stories about stuff like that or like not letting women get their tubes tied because “what if your future husband wants kids” like you’re not performing a treatment that this woman wants on her own body because of what a man that doesn’t exist and may never exist might want? GTFO These doctors that do this should be banned from practicing medicine until they are able to make decisions in the best interest of their patients and not fictional people. It can happen with men wanting Vasectomies too, but i’m sure far less common. And don’t get me started on doctors allowing their own personal view of things like abortion affecting the care that a patient gets. The only views or religion that should matter are the views of the patient. Sorry went on a bit of a rant there…
