Price raise on commissions coming soon. (PLEASE COMMENT)
Added 2021-08-30 07:27:21 +0000 UTCHey everyone, based on how business is going I am likely to raise my prices ahead of the next opening for commissions. The reason I think it's finally time is because I've shown pretty consistent increases in my artwork capabilities, and I think it's time to bump my prices up a little.
[Disclaimer: Price Increase will not go into effect until OCT 1st if it seems OK]
The main focus will be (like last time) on Base Pricing and Character Pricing.
- Base price increased from $15 to $20
- Extra character price increased from $7.5 to $10.
- Detail-match outfits/armors will be $5 per character (previous: $7.5 for every 2 outfits/armors).
- Shading will not be changing its pricing at this time.
I also will be offering Abstract (free), Simple ($5) and Detailed ($10) backgrounds, as I've slowly picked up more skills in creating backgrounds and not immediately destroying them by putting characters over them. You can click to see rough examples of what I mean by quality level.
I think my OC's will continue to be $5 as Extra Characters. I'll also knock $5 off the base price if it is a solo image with one of my OC's. Black and White images will continue to get a $5 discount as well. All $5 and up Patreon Backers will continue to receive a $5 off discount on commissions.
Complicated Characters: Upon seeing a character which I'm unsure or unfamiliar with, I'll be looking for patterns, fades, odd or unusual shapes, and so on. The charge is going to behave similar to the Detail-match outfits/armors, if I need to match details specifically.
Alts: Versions of artwork with slight changes to show progression are going to be fairly cheap. In this Example (CLICK HERE), the alt work is pretty simple. I'd be charging nothing for cum/dry/pre as those are easy, $5 for slight linework alterations, and $10 if I have to redraw up to 50% of a character.
The Monkey's Paw: I will continue to use the 3 strikes rule for edits and revisions, regarding major edits as per my discretion. Discretionary edits after the monkey's paw curls its fingers are $5 each per batch / within reason.
Pricing on Upgrades for Doodle Rewards: The new pricing will apply to Doodle Rewards as well, if you choose to get upgrades. I plan to touch-up the patreon some to help clarify the rules on Rewards, so people can see them easier.
My regular images are now in pretty large resolutions (3200x2400) and a standard-ish 4:3 ratio. You can continue to see them in full resolution here.
Example of Price Increase:
Say you have a picture with 2 Characters, colors, shading, and a detailed background (such as this one from before). Right now, the pricing looks like $35 (38.05 with tax). The proposed price increase would add $5 to the base price, $2.5 to the extra character price, and then $5 for the detailed background, for a total of $12.5 extra.
That would raise the price meaningfully, to $47.5 (51.63 after tax). With the alt version, it would also jump another $5, bringing the piece to $52.5 or $57.07.
Proportionately speaking, this is about a 33% price increase. What might happen is a distinction between low-resolution works billed at the current rate, and my high resolution works billed at the higher rate... but I'm not so sure.
Partly, I'm thinking that lower effort sketches at lower resolutions are not appealing to me right now. Certainly, though a nearly $60 of price for a two character picture with good background work, shading, and high resolution would justify the larger time investment (3 hours is optimistic if I am really taking my time).
If the pricing seems too expensive and the increases are too much, please comment.
At the end of the week (Friday, September the 3rd), I'll pick a commenter for a free colored character pin-up via role of the dice. There are like 40 of ya'll backing, so chip in your thoughts please!

2021-09-03 02:08:53 +0000 UTCIf that justifies the improvement in art style then sure, that might not be a problem.
2021-08-31 00:25:13 +0000 UTCMy honest opinion: 33% increase feels a tad high but I still feel an increase is warranted. The key word here is "a tad." Your art has certainly improved though.

2021-08-30 16:03:21 +0000 UTCYou have really stepped up the art you do and the quality of you doing said arts so the price increase are perfectly fine with me and I dont mind either way.

2021-08-30 12:49:22 +0000 UTCI do not have thoughts on commission pricing.
2021-08-30 07:45:29 +0000 UTCI think it's absolutely fair. Your artwork has improved immensely this year, it's really been impressive to see.
2021-08-30 07:42:33 +0000 UTCThe pricing seems fair, your art is good and personally I think you could bump it up another $5 though that might scare away some potential costumers.

2021-08-30 07:35:58 +0000 UTCYour art has definitely improved and it's very clear to see, so a price increase is justified in this case. I'd say go for it! Time alone on a single piece when watching you stream justifies it.
2021-08-30 07:34:13 +0000 UTCI think the pricing is still fitting, since everything raisen in price at some point so no worries from me
