Dev Diary #23 - 0.2.2 Progression

Hey Happy Patrons,

So we're approaching the end of the month and boy, does time fly. It felt like only yesterday that I finished 0.2.1. Of course, I've been working hard on SL these last few weeks, particularly on the main story. I'll keep this Dev Diary short since there's not much to discuss. I've been thinking about creating one of those "update status" bars where I show a % of where I am in the current update. I'm sure it'll be something I'll add in the future.

Let's talk about what I have done so far. As you can see from the screenshot above, I created three new girls for SL. Two of these girls are planned as "side characters" who will be through other character events. I'm not sure if I want to create character cards for them. I need more time to think about it. I actually made a few more characters that were already planned before the reboot (and edited some existing ones) that will be revealed at a later date.

I put a lot of time and effort into making these characters appear "unique". I hope they don't look like characters from other games you've seen in the past. My goal is to always try to make characters appear as unique as I possibly can.

I finished one Azula scene (non-lewd) that discusses her intent to stay in the house with MC and the gang. This scene is primarily a "main story scene" that will lead us to the introduction to everyone's favorite builder.

On the subject of Makoto, "his" introduction scene is actually taking a lot more time than I thought it would. I think I've been working on it for about a week and a half and I'm still not finished. There were a lot of script changes and renders that needed to be edited (Would you believe me if I told you how difficult it is to get two models to hug in the renderer?)

But yeah, that's unfortunately where we are at, at the moment. Just those story scenes (which is pretty long) and character designs. Can't say I'm too happy with the amount of progress I've made, considering the hours I spent on the project. That's just how it is, I suppose.

I also have to start creating assets for Makoto, which hasn't been started yet. Unfortunately, I just don't have an estimate for when the next update will be. I'm always shooting for early next month, but I feel very behind for 0.2.2.

There will be a voting poll in the coming days (before the end of the month) to decide which character should get a scene. However, I'm really uncertain as to how much I can get done with this update. Main story scenes always take a long time because I'm constantly editing dialog so I don't contradict myself in the future. It might seem like I could just "copy-paste" what I already had before, but that's not the case. I actually take the time to re-read what I wrote previously and make appropriate edits. 

Also, SFW and NSFW folders have been updated with a few renders. Since "ORANGE-HAIRED-GIRL" won the previous polls, she has been given some extra renders. You can see a few samples of them below:

Yeah, a lot of people seem to love Makoto. I'm surprised by that but she's really charming in her own way. I hope I can keep her that way as we progress with the story. Makoto gang rise up.

I absolutely LOVE Makoto. She's got a great motivation, she's got drive as an independent entrepreneur, she's got a great backstory with deep roots in the lore, she's got pathos, and I'm a sucker for the "shy girl next door" type. Not a fan of her violent aversion to penises, however. I was honestly concerned that we'd have to wait a lot longer for Makoto to show up, but her construction skills come in so handy that we'll definitely need her sooner than later. Can't wait!
