Hi all, it's Aki once again bringing you an update on Operation XYX.
I'm happy to say that we've decided how we're going to develop this game, this time around. Unlike before where I used 2D rendered CGs for all of my sprites, this time I'll be using a mixture of 2D and 3D.
The game itself will be point-and-click with 2D rendered backgrounds, and the characters will also be 2D to match with the background. However...
I will be rendering the battle animations and maybe even a few important character interactions in 3D. This is a whole lot easier than drawing each individual character and it can give me something like what you can see above and below: the 3D animation and each characters 2D representation. You can find the HD demo video here:
Otherwise, coding has been going good - better than before. I was thinking of starting something like a dev journal on the website or on Twitter - that way I'll feel guilty if I get lazy. It won't be incredibly interesting, mainly just "added [feature]", "removed crappy code", "rewrote crappy code" (which is exactly what I spent yesterday doing).
If you'd like to see that feel free to drop me a message, like this post or generally keep supporting us at ReverseRyonaNet. We now have more Patrons than ever before: 12 ! It's not much compared to the big players but I appreciate each and every one of you and thank you again for pledging. I wish to do you proud!
Much love,
Aki + Mayu
P.S. I could write this in the developers journal but I'll put it here. The first scene is all done where you're in your bedroom and the code has been de-messified. You can now navigate a world by clicking arrow keys to arrive at different places. What remains now is: incorporate NPC + interactions, incorporate special NPC interaction. And story too, but I may create the story while I'm coding.
