This Week in the Forest! #75

YO FOLKS! Another week, another update! Let's get to it!

Starting with A Word from Vixel!

5/2 weekly update:

Heya floofs!! I hope your week is going well. ^w^
Last week I worked on getting the rest of our new Act 3 introduction content scripted, and made the monthly builds. We decided to include more of Charlotte's quest in this build, and there were more coding gotchas than anticipated, so it got a bit scrambly end of month. Hopefully the new content is enjoyable and bug-free! :}
Our old Act 2 project is full of "spaghetti-code" (hastily written code) and it's been interesting piggybacking new content onto it the last two months. I've needed a lot of extra debugging time doing stuff that should be pretty straightfoward. The hiccups are mostly happening because too many of the game's scripts know about each other and sometimes fight each other for control.
This week I'm refocusing my attention on the Upgrade project since that is crucial to addressing certain bugs, improving game performance, fixing slow spots in my coding workflow, and making room for future improvements like localization support (translating the game into different languages). We did a big push (for a few months!) after Act 2 to get the Upgrade project ready to go, and hit some design snags I still need to work out. The Upgrade project is more or less a redesign of the core code powering most of the game, so it's been a loooot to do over - but the benefits are worth it. Later this month I'll mix in more Act 3 story content to keep that progress steady. Boop yall soon! <3

On my side I've started roughin' out last month's Patreon poll! The poll was, who was gonna get some naughty content first, Melody, or Charlotte. and it was PRETTY DAMN CLOSE of a vote, so I'm gonna just do both. Got a fun thing written out, should be fun :3

I'll keep reaching out to folks and making new patreon critter sprites, and more Act 3 assets! Keep the gravy train rollin'!
