Ren - The Tale of Jenny and Screech

Comments

You gotta react to the latest ren project now with Vincent's tale. Also, the money game trilogy is up there with his 7 deadly sins videos as well that went with it

Liz Nichols

Wait-! Could the line "she's found somewhere to sleep" imply that she didn't *actually* have a place to sleep before? Like she started the song dragging her feet because she didn't know where "home" that night would be? Either way, poor girl 😭💔

If you're going to check out Self Portrait, please check out Vincent's Tale Prologue Sunflowers first. I also think that you'd personally really really enjoy the money game trilogy if you need a change of pace from the Tale Of series

My personal theory on the vocalization paired with guitar is that that's essentially Ren painting a scene, sonically. You're being transported, entered into the start of a scene, but you're not entering in the tale of screech, you're thrust in media res, the tale now starts right at the end. But once you're in violets tale, we once again need to establish the scene, and so we get the vocalization. But this does get thrown out the window in Vincent's Tale, as the prologue Sunflowers takes place of the vocalization instead

desperate to see the money game trilogy after this!

OKAY SOOO! I assume this will be a long comment lol. I feel like I might have left a long one previously so apologies for any repetition! (Spoilers if people are reading this before watching??) Such raw tales depicting tragic generational trauma. 😭 From Violet being abused by her father, to falling into a relationship with another abuser, then having twins before DYING.. only to have those twins split into foster care, and reunite briefly in another tragedy. People have drawn connections to Jenny having the same freeze response as her mother, while Screech has the violent tendencies of his father. Both exacerbated by their individual struggles growing up in the system. 2005 is 14 years before the tales of Jenny and Screech individually, as the twins are only 14 when they met their demise. We can also only imagine why a 14 year old girl is always walking the streets alone at night in high heels and her cheeks rosied with makeup. 🥲 If you watch Vincent’s tale (pls do, it’s a slight companion piece but not completely from my understanding.) super suggest watching Prologue first, then there’s some Instagram shorts related to the story and they can be found on YouTube (let me know if ya need a link?), THEN Self Portrait. After that there’s more coming soon!! Also the Renegades here NEEED political Mortius to go through the Money Game series. Part one is a live one shot like these are, part two is a lyric video, part three is another live one shot with killer (award winning!!) cinematography. It’ll rile you up, but it’s a stellar show of a big theme across his catalogue: greed. Before you dive into more of the heavy story driven pieces, personally I’d love for you to check out some more songs showing off his vocals!! He’s got some fun covers/retakes/mashups of songs, like Back on 74/Message in a Bottle, Fred Again mashup, and I Shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop (the one where he’s wearing red suspenders) by his busking band The Big Push. Chalk Outlines (live) is an original with great vocals. It’s a collab with Chinchilla who you’ve probably unknowingly heard because of TikTok. They also have another song, How to Be Me. If you react to those, prepare for hella comments about her own live performances!! They’ve referred to themselves as musical siblings. Troubles is a good song covering a bit of his health journey, and tbh if you keep going down the rabbit hole I’d suggest watching his Chapters fleshing out more of that journey in longer videos. They’ve all got a song at the end too, which would be fun reactions, but imo even if you don’t react to the chapters themselves they’re worth a watch in your free time. Last bit I’ll mention is a FUN series of song, Love Music 1-4!! Just some fun goofy ones, bit cheeky too especially 4 lol Okay thank ya for reading, much love 💖💖

Everything Ren does is worth watching, but for vocal analysis, maybe check out Chalk Outlines.

I love Ren’s stuff, I think for me the most important thing was the spiral staircase we see in Violet’s Tale and for me it represented the spiral of generational trauma that continued through the twins, which made the resolution connect for me.

To be honest, most of Ren’s discography could hit you. Of course Vincent’s tale (both sunflowers and self portrait as well as the acting scenes from ren’s second channel (ren makes stuff) but besides those I’d recommend suicide, For Joe, and Sick boy. Ren is the a great artist that I can’t wait to see you react to more!

MANN I am ticking down the minutes until my shift is over and I can watch this 😭💖💖 I’m both so excited to see you react to such a wonderful piece of art.. and so sorry it’s probs destroyed you 🥲 A new set of tales called Vincent’s Tale is slowly being released in parts, too!! He does happy things too, promise 😂💖

I was silently hoping for this! Yeeee. I did have to crank my speaker volume up to 100 in order to hear you, but as Casper says, we ball. He should undoubtedly enjoy Ren's music sometime. Poor sweet Jenny. Based on all the hints, like the mention of her makeup and high heels, that intense discomfort, her need to escape a street she's walked a thousand times, makes me think she's an escort that's walking home from work. At just fourteen years old. I think the Hands of Fate take the reigns during Screech's Tale. One hand is Patrick, back turned, not wanting to get involved with police. Another hand is his put-upon girlfriend, who's tired of Screech's street life and abuse. The third hand is of course, Officer Richard, who finally made Screech stop at great cost to his mental health. Oh, who is Violet? Why, she's vital in this tale of violence. I hope there is a Ren's Tale that shows Stevie getting what he deserves Because I Hate Him. Between 'Wait. Say something, Violet' and the next line, I imagine in my head that he put her in his car, drove to a hospital and then left her in front of it, screeching off into the night because he is trash and knows he'd be arrested. I believe Stevie only took James in, and mistreated him too, which is how the boy ended up on the streets so young. Jenny might have wound up as adopted or as a foster, tragically splitting up the twins. Perhaps Jenny froze because she knew deep down that this loud, terrifying boy was familiar? Perhaps she takes after her mum, who fawns or freezes during horrific events. Please don't listen to Self Portrait first, Sunflowers is just as important and they are connected.

The compilation was released in 2021, but the original solo video for Violet's Tale was released in 2019 which was meant to give that little Easter egg. I think he gave it some time to avoid the spoiler

Ren's schtick is the live recorded audio for his music videos combined with the single cut format. It's very cool to see it every time. You can play a kind of "I spy" game to hunt for the lapel mic he uses
