2026-02-28 19:46:47 +0000 UTCAlso that sparrow is RUDE. GoodBYE.

2026-02-28 01:00:27 +0000 UTCI really hope there’s an excellent pun in some dialect of Chinese surrounding Merciless and the word Yi.

2026-02-28 00:58:52 +0000 UTCBurning Heavens is rapidly rising in the rankings!

2026-02-28 00:26:43 +0000 UTCReaders: We can't wait for that sparrow to get what's coming to her! Grampa Jun Cackling: Hold my Calabash

2026-02-27 21:34:05 +0000 UTCI appreciate the leaf description really works with the framing of the Dao as totalistic like we saw during Burning Heavens ascension. The leaf is all variations of its color and in doing so is also its own specific color, like seeing the clouds and realizing its swathes are miles beyond you even as it all seems so close and cohesive.
Veridescent
2026-02-27 21:31:34 +0000 UTCLiren has returned to her ancestors (cultivating birds), and will likely be taught by a xiezhi. Maybe the xiezhi (I'm guessing is Merciless) will have some ideas on how to untangle the Disciplinary Squad problem.

2026-02-27 20:29:02 +0000 UTCI'm also exceedingly curious as to what purpose Grandpa will have, but I absolutely disagree that it's arguable if Tian still needs him. He's trapped on a mountain meeting people(?) at minimum 3 full realms higher than he is. That "brat sparrow" singlehandedly redefined the life paths of both Tian and Liren in the space of a single afternoon, and as was pointed out by Jun just a chapter or two ago, the sole entire reason that Tian is learning the flute is because a Heavenly Realm elder mentioned it offhandedly as an option. The idea that Grandpa is unnecessary for our boy is akin to staring at a couple drops of water REALLY close up and saying "What a beautiful view of the ocean!", haha.

2026-02-27 18:53:05 +0000 UTC“Where did she get it from? If you’ll excuse me, I need to go practice standing on a pond and t-posing.”

2026-02-27 18:48:49 +0000 UTCDaoist Brightheart with the old philosopher answer and Burning Heaven with the young dinosaur answer. Both part of the Bird Dao, both correct.

2026-02-27 18:47:56 +0000 UTCI'm very curious whether the image of 'Grandpa Jun' has any meaning besides rage baiting an asshole bird (hilarious btw). I don't imagine Jun in life would have ever actually looked old. I'm increasingly curious what Grandpa's role will be in the story going forward, especially once Tian breaks through. It's already a bit arguable whether Tian really needs him at this point. But then, the last book was relatively peaceful. I'm even more curious about Jun's past. Presumably he's guided other students. How did the ring end up with the Xia? Why weren't they making use of it?

2026-02-27 18:06:27 +0000 UTCTian what are you talking about? She obviously learned it from you.
Leaf
2026-02-27 17:55:38 +0000 UTCDaoist Merciless would be the goat sheep, hybrid thing. The giant toad Voidcatcher, and the anemic human Wine Ghost. My guess anyway.
Aaron Archer
2026-02-27 17:25:41 +0000 UTCThe calabash at his waist holds the wine!
Mqrius
2026-02-27 17:24:31 +0000 UTCProbably just saying he remembers what Xiezhi smell like. The third guest being described is probably a Xiezhi. Mythical Chinese beasts that are supposed to symbolize Law and stuff basically.

2026-02-27 17:05:49 +0000 UTCNah, pretty sure grandpa is some kind of celestial-cultivation level or something similar. Something comparable to the mad God of Tian’s world
James Faulkner
2026-02-27 16:47:33 +0000 UTCOh very possible, I’m partial to the spiky dragon horse description but they have all kinds of weird features sometimes.

2026-02-27 16:47:14 +0000 UTCThat was before Tian could speak mentally to him. A heavenly person would overhear Tian whispering to himself.

2026-02-27 16:44:52 +0000 UTCHopefully Tian won't forget that Lark.

2026-02-27 16:42:20 +0000 UTCWait, so does Grandpa know some of these Daoists? I thought he came from an entirely different universe?
Logrus
2026-02-27 16:31:58 +0000 UTCWarby has already told us you can’t argue with the Toad
Joshua Flowers
2026-02-27 16:30:23 +0000 UTCI'm going guess here that the last to get introduced isn't a chimera, but a qilin/kirin of some kind.
WickedlyDesigned
2026-02-27 16:30:18 +0000 UTCAm I misremembering? I thought Grandpa wasn't able to talk around Heavenly People for fear of being detected. Was this retconned?
pinkbunny
2026-02-27 16:29:43 +0000 UTCToad -> Void Catcher (Frogs hop over spaces to catch things with their tounges) Slenderman -> Wine Ghost (He is slickly looking and pale as a Ghost) Chimera -> Merciless (Blantant and taunting ferocity in the grinning predatory teeth)
Joshua Flowers
2026-02-27 16:29:04 +0000 UTCFinally, Grandpa gets to the fun part of being a cultivation ghost: collecting shiny stuff and sending pain in the ass brats with no proprietary on wild goose chases because they can't leave well enough alone.
Tabac Iberez
2026-02-27 16:27:28 +0000 UTCGrampa Jun sending noisy mind readers on a wild goose chase. Legend.
Isak Mark
2026-02-27 16:13:59 +0000 UTCi am assuming(i know what that means) wine ghost is the man with the calabash.. anemic can be pale-"ghost like", and a calabash can be a wine gourd void catcher toad and merciless the chimera.
Len
2026-02-27 16:02:00 +0000 UTCWell, that's once
Dash of Salt
2026-02-27 15:56:36 +0000 UTCSo the chimera thing is for Liren, because grandpa Jun commented on lanolin, a major part of wool, regarding her. The obvious one for tian is the calabash wearer, given Tian’s “insane cultivator” persona, but I could see subverting that for a giant toad.
Brian P.
2026-02-27 15:44:15 +0000 UTC"Peacock. Tian had seen normal Peacocks once or twice, but never a white one." Didn't Tian mention that the peacock he saw getting ready with the rest of the group was the first one he had ever seen?
Akkido
2026-02-27 15:40:09 +0000 UTCIs there a Poop shade in that Daoist Brown?
Daft Dolphin
2026-02-27 15:36:41 +0000 UTCSeeing how this birds act towards their junior cultivators, you can start to understand how the monastery had so many bad people in it They were just following the example of the powerful Hopefully the new monastery that comes out of the mountain is better than that, and has true virtue instead of just farming it for benefits
Boneco
2026-02-27 15:24:37 +0000 UTCTftc! For a little while I was worried we were getting close to beings who were somewhere close to grandpa's level. Guess not!

2026-02-27 15:22:41 +0000 UTCI’m glad we didn’t resolve Liren’s issues in a single chapter, that deserves time to be worked on.
Brian P.
2026-02-27 15:22:35 +0000 UTCOhh man Now we have to wait 3 days
Zimojovic
2026-02-27 15:17:18 +0000 UTCWell, Grandpa is flexing his muscles now.
Andrew Lechner
2026-02-27 15:16:40 +0000 UTCThanks for the chapter
Hrvy
2026-02-27 15:16:33 +0000 UTCMerciless-> gaunt human with calabash Wine ghost -> chimera Void catcher -> toad I’m going full reversal on any possible logic I can see.
Kain
2026-02-27 15:16:29 +0000 UTCHe’s a saint of the dao of pettiness
Diarmuid McGinnity
2026-02-27 15:15:06 +0000 UTCGrandpa Jun being a mean old man to the assholes on the mountain is quite cathartic. It's also nice to see him aura farming in the way if a ring grandpa.
