They might make it widely known how the ritual works seeing as it seems to be one of the Paths main source of power and a bit of propaganda to allude to it working on humans too and can the path prove that they dont use it on enemies they capture.

Despite the fact that the church priest deserves the worst punishment, I think they might want to do this instead so they don't create a martyr.
