Rider is a character I made quite a while ago, just a pure "average" christian boy who can later be influenced for my own amusement. this is the first time I've drawn him as an anthro! I say average because I imagine he has nothing to do with the batshit crazy ultra hard right type christians and is just more or less of a basic faith. he has friends who are gay, bi, etc and he believes in mutual respect and empathy. he has his pure moments though that challenge him and his rowdier football playing buddies a bit...
posing at the bottom with his dad, Barry, who is yes, a bear. rider is not a hybrid species, just a golden retriever fully... hybrid species are a bit messy to me, as I feel that representing both in one body can kind of compromise the features of one over the other. it's a little different when the differences are extreme (like, a dragon crossed with a wolf, or something) where there are things like nose shape, horns, wings, etc to adapt from the dragon. in this case, bears are also caniforms and I feel like making rider a dog/bear hybrid would necessitate one of two things at least: giving him little bear ears, or making him huge and "thick", neither of which I think suit the image I had in my mind for him. this is a really longwinded way of saying, I just wanted him to have a hot bear dad while being his own species. my way of explaining this before was that the mother's species passes down predominantly in this world... we'll see if I stick to that.
