FYI: Barnes and Noble has existed as Barnes and Noble since 1932. I am thrilled that Cordelia has grown on you. I too hated her initially, but I grew to love her. You have yet to see Cordy at her most awesome, but I’ll save that commentary for later episodes.

I think at first the mango thing is hard to deal with because it may seem like the show is promoting these imbalanced relationships, but as we progress, we see that there are real consequences for Buffy. This show is a huge story about the complexities of girls/young women growing up, and do teen girls get involved with older men IRL? Yes, yes we do. We sometimes have to deal with the shock of a (sometimes older) man changing drastically after having sex, being unrelenting in treating us poorly and stalking/harassing us, etc. It’s certainly not the case that the show is saying mango is all fine and good, and nothing bad happens in the dynamic. There are definitely consequences that while not named explicitly as being age related, as they are shrouded in vampire mythos and dynamics, are metaphorically parallel. Sadly, Buffy has to go through the shock, grief, anger, and consequences that so many girls and young women similarly have to go through.

And the whole Buffy/Angel thing becomes an incredible metaphor for evil Exes who are both obsessed with hurting you AND know all your vulnerabilities. We couldn't get to this point without the story beforehand. Now things get sooo good! Yay!!!

2026-01-06 18:31:55 +0000 UTC5:18 at least now it’s SUPPOSED to be creepy and fucked up instead of trying to pass off creepy and fucked up as romantic? 5:54 Regardless of whether or not he has his soul, he’s still a vampire, still has the same strengths and weaknesses, so the invite status isn’t affected. 1:01:03 in the lore of this show, the soul is someone’s morality, conscience, sense of right and wrong, guilt, empathy, inhibitions. It has no effect on memory and only affects personality insofar as anyone’s personality is dictated by their morals or lack there of. When he had a soul he remembered everything he did before he was cursed, which is why he was so guilty and brooding all the time. So he still remembers everything from when he had the soul, just doesn’t have the same emotional response to it. These are some great episodes! So glad you liked them! Der Kindestod is definitely one of the creepier monsters we get, a great return to the show’s roots in horror.

I’m glad you’re pushing though so far—the show really starts to shine at this point and the mango issues don’t stick around forever.
