The sad part is that out of all of the Endless, Dream is the one who seems to understand humanity the least. But as seems to always be the case, he's to arrogant/focused on what he believes his responsibilities to be to see or admit that. Death has been trying to get him to understand that for thousands if not millions of years. Even the schemes and shenanigans of Desire's warped rivalry with him tries to keep showing him that.
