Sidenote: if someone chooses to stop watching your reactions because you’re rightfully grossed out by a pedophile…. I think they can go.

Jordan Barnes

You have absolutely nothing to apologize for, most of your viewers are adults I’m assuming, and a lot of us feel differently about the Angel/Buffy relationship than we did when we watch the show as young adults or teenagers. I was into it then, and grossed out by it now. Literally every time they show affection I’m like “SHE’S A TEENAGER BRO”

Jordan Barnes

Xander is such a fucking incel, I hate him so much I can’t stand when he speaks.

Jordan Barnes

Amazing how many hundreds of times I’ve heard the Buffy intro song and I STILL headbang and dance hard to it. It’s such a simple, solid intro song.

Jordan Barnes

You're going to get plenty of it Alysha lol smh because fam smh

Raymond Walker

For reasons not yet revealed and for others already revealed, it’s ok- I’m here for the Angel slander with my popcorn and tea

Alysha

Lmao “okay? Whooo is that??” Just one of the best characters in the series.

My partner and I are watching this now and we're at the rant and she wants to say: Yeah, it's completely fair that you're getting the ick from the Buffy/Angel relationship. I watched this show when it first aired in the 90's/00's (looking back I was way too young to be watching this live) and the only thing to really say is that it's of its time and genre in a very specific way. I'm glad that it's not that now, and it shouldn't have been acceptable then. It's interesting to watch it now, as an adult myself, and be able to understand the side-eye while also still remembering what it felt like to watch it as a kid when it felt like the most romantic thing in the world. At the time, it felt so relatable to see someone who wanted to be treated like an adult and was consistently frustrated that she wasn't. At the time, it felt so vindicating to see that someone "saw" Buffy for how she wanted to be treated rather than continuing to treat her as a child. Looking at it now, of course, I also look at teenagers like they're children because they are. Unfortunately, it's a trope that really did continue on over time. Twilight did the same thing across multiple relationships. If you are able to it's worth continuing on with the show because this romance is only part of the wider whole, but it's also very fair to acknowledge that this is a major part of the show right now and that it's frustrating to watch it as a result. To your broader point, I work in the film/television industry and you're not wrong that it's inherently exploitative. This show coming from Joss Whedon, who ultimately was abusive to actors (including those on this show) adds layers to it, too. Again, it should never have been acceptable, and I hope that it will give you some comfort to know that the industry is trying to take better care of young actors. I work in departments that do engage with actors regularly, and people who are to deal with child actors are (at least on bigger budget union shows) required to submit for background tests before they are allowed to engage with them. It wouldn't have necessarily made a difference on the Buffy set as the actors were mostly over 18, but it is something that is being taken more seriously now than it was then. Outside of that relationship, I'm glad that you're starting to like Cordy. She's one of my favourite characters in the whole series, and I hope that she'll continue to grow on you. I love that her character basically acts like she's in a horror movie, she knows she's in a horror movie, but she absolutely will not engage with the horror movie shit and she's going to live her life regardless. The juxtaposition of the rest of the gang taking all of it very seriously and Cordy begrudgingly getting involved against her will never stops making me laugh.

Oh and Taco, in case it wasn't obvious from the Anne Rice name drop: Spike is absolutely modeled on your favorite fun-loving, rule-breaking blond bad boy vamp - especially Frenchie's upcoming rock star incarnation. Enjoy!

Omg and then 2 min later "Man, shut up! Mango!" KILLING MEEEEEE

Jude

Just had to pop in part way through my watch and say that you pausing in the middle of a fight scene to ask "Where's Angel? He always want to pop up, pop up now!" cracked me up so hard. Just your facial expressions are killing me 😂😂😂 Best laugh I've had this week so thank you Taco!

I'm just catching up to this now but I had to comment on the Angel stuff because you are NOT alone! Bangel (Buffy+Angel) is my least favorite relationship in the show because we are seeing Angel as a "good guy" who is well aware of Buffy's age and immaturity, and continues to pursue her. I can't fault her about it - she's literally a kid who has been told she's basically not like other humans, so for her to seek companionship in a vampire makes sense. And it makes sense that it would be the one vampire out there with a soul, because it makes them both unique. But Angel, being much older than her should have more sense than that. And you're right, he points out the fact that she's just a kid and that she acts like a kid all the time. You'd think it might make him reconsider! Hey, this 16 year old girl is acting like such a child! Maybe she's not someone I should date! Nope, lol. But don't worry, it's totally possible to love the show, love Buffy, and still be icked out by Angel and their relationship! If anything, it's kinda realistic. I unfortunately also dated an older guy (24yo) when I was 16 too. Now, as a 30yo, I know how fucking weird he was for that, but at the time, I swore up and down that I was just "mature for my age".
