2025-09-11 17:21:10 +0000 UTCGiles falling a part over the impending hits even harder when you remember that Buffy dying is one of his big fears(1x10 Nightmares), and he was blaming himself for not doing better as her Watcher. And in that scene in the library, Buffy in a sense was kinda blaming, or at least putting down what she was viewing as his lack of usefulness when they both are facing the fact that she's going to die. OOF!

I cannot even imagine what it’s like knowing your life is over, looking at photos of everything you’ve lived and knowing that this is it, your story is done. And yet, she still sacrificed herself to save others. Buffy’s selflessness is remarkable!

2025-09-11 06:47:48 +0000 UTCIt can be overlooked, but you might recall in the first episode, Buffy tells us that in order to be turned into a vampire, “first they have to suck your blood, then you have to suck their blood—it’s like a whole big sucking thing.” I think a big factor for Buffy being stronger at the end is that she was no longer afraid of dying—she already did that. They weren’t sure if they’d get a second season when this was filmed—this would have been a serviceable finale for the series if that had been the case. Of course, unlike with Firefly, we are very, very fortunate that the tale continues!

2025-09-11 01:00:03 +0000 UTCYou’re on point about her outfits! I was in 8th grade when this season came out—I had a little notebook and I sketched like every outfit she wore, to try to copy. My family couldn’t afford cool boots and leather jackets, and our school would definitely not allow such short skirts, but I sure as hell tried to manifest what I could! It’s pretty great to look back at the series now and see just how many of Buffy’s outfits still hold up. Sarah Michelle’s acting is so fantastic in this episode—a taste of what’s to come! “Read me the signs! Tell me my fortune!” And “Giles, I’m 16 years old—I don’t wanna die” in her cracking voice lives rent free in my head.
