The bombing at the end is I think a representation of the Omagh bombing, although the timing isnt right for it. I love the juxtaposition of the bubble that the girls are in and what's really happening in the world around them

2025-12-17 12:33:42 +0000 UTCSeeing how much you've been vibing with the soundtrack to this show it's worth noting that originally, the last scene where Orla is performing, the song should actually be Madonna Like A Prayer but when Netflix got the show from Channel 4 they didn't have the licencing to play that so it got changed to Pray by Take That

2025-09-11 00:31:18 +0000 UTCI think part of what makes this show so incredible is showing the duality of growing up in a troubled time- they are silly and up to antics, but at the exact same time there is a lethal explosion. It shows how beautifully complicated life can be!

2025-09-11 00:15:45 +0000 UTCDefinitely look into The Troubles - there was incredibly violent conflict from the 60s through the 90s in northern Ireland, and that informs a lot of what you see in this show (the military coming onto the kids' bus in episode 1, the guy in their trunk trying to cross the border, the comments about James because he's English, etc). I absolutely love this show. It's so hilarious and lighthearted and then they'll throw in a gut punch like in the season 1 finale. It's done so masterfully.
