2025-09-03 07:10:17 +0000 UTCThanks to my class in British Detective Fiction (you gotta love undergrad. -- I mean, what a random class)...I can tell you why the show IS in fact suggesting that Sherlock and John are possibly romantically involved. It's because, over the decades, many scholars have analyzed Doyle's stories and speculated that Holmes and Watson were secretly a couple. Most of these works were very likely a product of doctoral candidates looking for an interesting topic to write a thesis about (or some such) but over the decades, certain scholarly works on the subject became widely circulated to the degree that the theory seeped out to the public.
