SERENITY Movie Reaction ( WAAASSSSHHHHHH!!!)

Comments

Someone suggested this on one of the YouTube videos, but I feel it really bears repeating: *regardless* of whether or not you include it in your reaction content, you *need* to do yourself a favour and watch Dollhouse. It‘a made by the same guy as Firefly, but with a much higher production value, and in order to avoid the kind of backlash they got from the cancellation of Firefly, they gave him two seasons to tell the story. It’s legitimately one of the best tv shows ever made. The first season by itself is very engrossing and tells a great story, but the second season is *insane*.

Back before you started Firefly I said you would enjoy it but probably not get many new subscribers. How wrong I was. Congrats, and thanks for the ride. It was great re-visiting this wonderful series.

“Bad for y’all 😔 intriguing to watch” is the catchphrase for the channel

I signed up on Patreon almost "just" to see you. react to this - you didn't disappoint (no shock there!)

God the end of this movie makes me cry EVERY TIME. “Love.” ❤️ They definitely rearranged some elements of the Simon + River break-out and what information he had going in because they needed to make it easy to explain to an audience that hadn’t watched the series. It’s a funny case because so many more people have seen the show BECAUSE of the movie. They were hoping for another film after this, or to potentially use momentum from the film’s release to get another network to pick Firefly back up, but Serenity sadly didn’t make that kind of box office revenue so never happened. Wash’s death is a classic Whedon sucker punch, and I mean that in a positive way. He does the big “final words” death scene with Book, and then pulls the sudden violent death with Wash. TBH, both are effective and make sense in the story. Thanks for taking us on this ride with you Ray. ❤️🦊

Watching Serenity takes a lot out of me. It's one of my favorite movies ever but losing Wash will never stop hurting. I usually take a bathroom break when introducing the movie to friends right around that time and let them watch it while I hide for five minutes. I cry every time. But on a brighter note: this movie is epic and amazing and brings me joy. Edit: the day Ron passed it was raining where I was and I took the ten minutes I had before work and cried while the rain washed them away. RIP Ron 🥹 The Book and ML scene is my favorite scene in the movie. I just love everything about it. The dialogue, the lighting, the subtext. Just so good

So glad you loved it. If you haven't yet, I'd highly recommend the bloopers from both Firefly and Serenity- this cast truly loved each other and it shows through how much fun they had behind the scenes ❤

First off, RIP Ron Glass (Shepard Book). I still remember first time I ever saw him in Barney Miller. If you want more on Book's background, you'll have to check out the Serenity comics Joss did a few years after the movie. The comics also give us more of the crew's story after the movie. A lot of people say Mal doesn't have any empathy (I think that's the word you were looking for). But anyone who actually watches the show knows that's not the case. Mal always has to make the best of the only decisions available. Unfortunately, those options almost always have been limited to only choices between bad and worst options. And even then, he still tries his best to find the decision that does the least amount of harm (for everybody) if possible. Like I've said before on so many of the Firefly reactions, "Mal doesn't often do what's legal, but he always tries to do what's right". Chitwetel was absolutely immaculate in this role (as he is in every role he takes). The Operative's constant aura of quiet calm yet intimidating menace that always surrounded the character was absolute perfection. Just a Chef's Kiss of a performance. Wash's death was just an absolute and complete gut punch NOBODY saw coming. Whenever folks watch reactions, you know THAT is the moment everyone is waiting for in the reaction. Also I adore that Mal called River "little albatross". Obvious callback to the first conversation with the Operative, but a more accurate use of the phrase. As Mal pointed out, in the poem (and historical sailor superstition), an albatross was a good omen for the ship. And it only became a curse when some foolish sailor killed it (thus destroying the ship's fortune) It is a criminal shame that they had to cut and condense what was intended to be multiple seasons worth of story line down into less than 2 hours of movie. But they did an amazing job of it, and at least we did get actual closure. This was a great ride to take with you man. - Your friendly Overworked IT Guy.
