LOVE CRAFT COUTNRY EP 4-5 REACTION

LOVE CRAFT COUTNRY EP 4-5 REACTION

Comments

Lol I know I’m super late to this, but depression keeps knocking me out, so I’m just now catching up. Anyway, all my comments are going to center around Ruby (My favorite character) and her dynamic with William/Christina (aka WillStina), because honestly, I find their relationship both fascinating and strangely endearing. Especially when it comes to Christina, there’s this undeniable level of care, security, and choice that she extends to Ruby that I haven’t seen anyone else give her in the show. The question always comes up: “Why Ruby?” But as WillStina literally says, “Why not Ruby?” And that’s what really grabs me. People automatically assume that Ruby is being used as some kind of pawn, like Christina’s only goal is to get close to Lettie or Tic through her. But the show never frames it that way. Christina never brings up Lettie or Tic when she’s with Ruby; the focus is entirely on Ruby herself. While she does ask for a favor, it is entirely to do with William, not her sister. That’s what makes it so powerful. Ruby doesn’t have to bend, prove herself, or shrink to be considered “worthy” in this relationship. She hasn’t been asked to be more or less than what she is. And that in itself is radical. As Willstina said, " The 1st time I laid eyes on you was the first time in a while I felt magic where there was none." It's a line, yes, but Christina never really lies. If asked, she provides honest answers upfront, that what I love about her. She doesn't need to lie because she is confident enough in her plan that their knowing the truth won't hinder it. Ruby is magic. Their very first meeting sets the tone for this. Ruby tells William that it’s not the first time a white man has offered to make her a “kept woman.” That could’ve been the moment for him to reassure her that he’d actually keep that promise, but instead, WillStina says: “Why would I insult you like that?” That reply flips the script; it’s not about possessing Ruby, it’s about refusing to diminish her. Christina knows firsthand what it means to be stifled and shoved to the side because of who she is (her father never saw her as an equal or heir). So in Ruby, she sees someone she refuses to “keep” in that sense, someone whose potential she actually acknowledges. The potion isnt a mechanism for Ruby to know who she is, Ruby knows exactly who she is and has worked to be it for a very long time. The world keeps interrupting.((Her woman and black monologue is literally my social media heading.)) A Detail in Episode 5 when “White Ruby” is given vanilla ice cream for free. Historically, during Jim Crow, Black people weren’t even allowed to buy vanilla ice cream unless it was the 4th of July or another “special occasion.” So that moment hits hard. Ruby doesn’t just get to order it, she’s handed it without question, for free. It’s such a small gesture on screen, but for Ruby, it’s surreal, even disorienting. It captures in one scene both the intoxicating ease of whiteness and the bitter awareness of what’s been historically denied to her. That’s part of what makes Ruby’s connection with Christina so layered; it’s not just about seduction or manipulation, it’s about possibility. Ruby is constantly caught between the life she’s been boxed into and the doors that Christina cracks open for her, even if those doors come with their own twisted costs.

1:51:45 Your face is the same as the face of the man on the TV. I'm sure mine is the same. WTF??!!

Melissa

15:23 Prediction: What they're looking for is related to that solar system thing Hippolyta is trying to crack. Also, when Christina goes in to see the Sheriff, I could swear his office is in the back of that same bar that the three of them were meeting in right before that.

Melissa

I haven't even watched the other episodes yet but your face on this thumbnail is hilarious 🤣 can't wait to get around the whole thing!

It’s definitely referencing werewolves with the transformation scenes.
