FIREFLY FINALE REACTION

FIREFLY FINALE REACTION

Comments

I remember finishing episode 14 and Then trying to go to the next episode and being so disappointed. I knew that it had been cut off early but I didn't realize how early.

I've loved your reaction to Firefly! Can't wait for Serenity! Definitely consider reacting to Resident Alien (it has Wash from Firefly in it).

you asked for a recommendation - pleeeeeeease do The Expanse, I beg!! it is sci-fi, great writing, great acting and character/character development. firefly-esque in some ways but Amazon money you would love it!!! (Sci-FI channel owned and canceled the show after season 3, and Bezos apparently loved it enough to buy it from them and they made three more seasons)

You're on point Amanda..and like you said yes it is quite the shame we didn't get to see what the relationship could have grown into. 1000% agree about the boundaries and the names he would call her as well...I never would of guessed about the illness but thats a nice touch as well..wish we got more

It's been so pleasurable to watch someone who truly understands what this show is about. You're able to see the depth of each character, and it's refreshing. I know you were an HM2 in the Navy. I was an EM1. I appreciated that you knew to say Permission Granted when River requested permission to come aboard. I think there was a side meaning in that River was asking if she could stay with Serenity. Remember that before the shenanigans began, Mal was trying to decide what to do with her.

I'm loving it!! 😃

Now that you’ve seen the show, it’s safe to tell you that the intended arc for Inara involved the reveal that she has a fatal disease that is progressing fairly rapidly (remember in episode 8 when Simon says something like “I don’t want to die like that [suffocation],” and Inara replies “I don’t want to die at all”?). Nandi makes a sly reference in Heart of Gold too “do you know why she left [their house temple]?” She wouldn’t want to become House Mother if she’s going to die, you know? This is the major factor coloring her keeping distance from Mal, along with the obvious issues with her profession. She’s so heartbroken in Heart of Gold not just because Mal slept with her friend, but because she feels like she can’t really have the love she wants without causing harm, because she’s dying. TBH although there’s clearly feelings between them, he tramples her boundaries constantly, with the name-calling and entering her shuttle uninvited—both of which she explicitly stated not to do—and he never apologizes for it or changes the behavior. Maybe he would have if given time in future seasons. But these actions from Mal, absent any acknowledgement or accountability, make me not want them together as it stands at this point in the narrative. It’s such a shame we didn’t get to see them grow—her standing up against his constant disrespect, him taking accountability, her becoming vulnerable and revealing her situation, and where things could have gone from there. 😭 💔
